Watchmen: The End Is Nigh 2 Details Emerge

Looks like the next installment in the episodic Watchmen prequel game series The End Is Nigh will be basically the same as the first one, except with more porn.

The next episode in The End Is Nigh [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/5834-Review-Watchmen-The-End-is-Nigh] will deliver the same brawler-style gameplay and continue to flesh out the backstory of Nite Owl and Rorschach's golden days as masked vigilantes.

Weapons in the game, according to the ESRB's description, include crowbars, baseball bats and knives, and enemies run the gamut of generic beat-em-up punching bags: bikers, gang members and thugs.

The story does sound pretty interesting, though, in a dark and twisted Watchmen sort of way. Rorschach and Nite Owl are on the hunt for a villain who molested a porn star, and the "search leads players to a strip club that contains go-go dancers in cages, peep-show booths, and a pornographic film playing in the background." Rorschach's going to be angry.

Oh yeah, and before any of you guys get any ideas in your dirty minds, the ESRB says that "although moaning and suggestive dialogue (e.g., "Ohhh, it's so big!") can be heard echoing from the film, no nudity or sexual acts are depicted."

Overall, if you liked what you got in the first episode, then it sounds like you'll be getting plenty more in the second. Disappointing that there aren't going to be any other playable characters, though. The fact that Silk Spectre isn't in the game playing a keytar [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDDHHrt6l4w] is a crying shame.

At least it won't be responsible for anyone's car being stolen or people being killed, right?

Wow. That's really a let-down. It would have been great to play as Dr. Manhattan or The Comedian.

Then again, the first game was a let-down just because it was made.

I imagine playing as Manhattan would be kinda like the Brumak ride in Gears of War 2.

Saturday Morning Watchmen, genius!

But yea, a shame they didn't take the opportunity to expand the game beyond generic beat em up. Comedian would have been cool.

That sucks. It grew stale after about two levels of beating up the same group of thugs over and over again with the first installment.

Didn't the first game literally just come out? Little early to talking about the sequel... all the signs of a rushed game.

It's episodic. But... yeah, it's as if they didn't listen to any of the criticism of the first one XD

They were already over halfway done with development by the time they started getting criticism from the first one. There's not much they can do about it now. At this point your best bet is episode three to start seeing changes.

Wutwut.
Oh dear, this isn't going to end well.

I thought the movie was overall, pretty good.
The game was pushing it, somewhat abusing Alan Moore's reluctant franchise, but it didn't overstep too many boundaries given it's modesty (short and outside the established storyline).

This is just going overboard.

Edit:

Haha, nice reference Keane.
I saw that video too...
This, along with the ever-expanding Watchmen franchise, must have Alan Moore turning over in his grave...err...I mean retirement.

Well, I can sort of see where you're coming from, Keane, but only to a certain extent. Is that necessarily good or bad? I simply ask because although I'm a fan of Gears of War, I haven't yet played Gears 2. However, as far as the Watchmen are concerned, as long as these threads keep popping up and I keep hearing good stuff about the Watchmen in general, the more psyched I get about the film and the comic book itself. A friend asked a few years ago if I wanted to borrow Watchmen, and I turned him down (until Halo: The Graphic Novel came out, I was never interested in comics). God, how I regret that now...
