Okay, I recently saw the 'We Are ODST' trailer, and not only did this trailer have barely anything to do with the new Halo game, but the beginning just looked like such of copy of "The Few, The Proud, The Marines" commercials. And then the american marines bust out the assault rifles (that kinda look retarded when held by real people) and I just sigh. What was the point of that trailer anyway, and did anyone think the ODSTs looked a LOT like marines?

Well it looked cool, and if halo was real then they probably look like that so...
But I mean, it was almost the exact same marine uniform at the beginning.

Point taen, but in all the other halo games they're in green armor or black. I dunno, it was just weird that it was a trailer with actual people, not videogame AI. Point taken though

The ODST's are the equivalent of the Marines (not just the US ones godamnit) in the Halo universe.

Normal Marines in Halo (called Marines because space ships count as Navy technically) - Army.
ODST's - Marines.
Pelican and Hornet Pilots - Air force.
Space Ship Pilots - Navy.

UNSC. you do fight alongside marines in all the halo games. I think you just have issues with halo 1 marine ai and hate all marines for it, but hey i don't blame you, many a time they driven me off a cliff or into fusion guns

are you sure? i believe that they are all pretty much marines. and the Marines are called Marines!

Modern day earth has nothing that can compare with the ODST

I think if you would compare ODST to something today they would be more of the Delta Force or Navy Seals. ODST are the elite marines.

Of course it does. The roles taken by each of them match roles to the Military of today.

The 'Marines' are basic foot soldiers trained in conventional warfare (which in this case includes drop ships such as Pelicans) they use tanks and vehicles and are general infantry. Just like the army of today.

The ODST's are an elite fighting force trained in assault warfare in Halo this is the use of drop pods, they are better trained and better equipped. Just like Marines, who are an assault force, mainly based around beach assaults.

The Air Force is self explanatory.

The Navy are transporters and mobile defence craft just like boats. The difference is that they defend space rather than a planets ocean. They are a place to transport soldiers, weapons and vehicles just like in real life.

Hmmm. I see what you mean, but bear in mind that there are a fair amount of ODST's compared to normal Marines in the Halo universe.

Just like the Marines are smaller than the Army but still fairly large.

I'd say Spartans are more like Delta, Navy Seals and SAS. If you read the books anyway, as they are not really anything like they are in the Halo games. They are fairly stealth based.

since when did it have to match. Anthing fighting from a ship is a marine. meaning all the marines are actually marines. and the USA marines fly their own planes and sail some of their own ships. you can have a all inclusive fighting force you know

It's marketing. Anybody remember those stupid Halo 3 live action trailers? Granted, I've only seen the last few seconds or so of the ODST trailer, but what I saw was bad enough to warrant this opinion.

Before anyone replies, no, I'm not a Halo hater. Bungie is just... terrible at making live action trailers.

I thought it was pretty cool.

Maybe Bungie is trying to brainwash gamers to joining the Us army.

Wait, how would it relate to the U.S.?
If I remember, the language they were speaking in the trailer was not english, at all.

I think they were trying to show that more countries are fighting the covonant, not just the U.S.

Halopedia people!

Marines are marines. There is a separate UNSC army and air force
