Hey there everyone, and welcome to another WAOA! For a lot of people, this will be the old hash, but for those that aren't new to the series, welcome to WAOA! heres our rules.
Alright, rules are down. Next up, locations! which are in the next post.
The premise of the thread is simple. Your character is your avatar. They have the same powers, personality, and the like. This doesn't mean OCs aren't allowed, (They very much are!) but you must do your absolute best to find an image to represent them in some way.
Do your best to actually follow the rules, or face punishment by the DMs.
Who are the GMs you ask?
Well, there's myself, and Outisakanobody. We'll be, for lack of a better description, the law of the land around these here parts.
So, standard rules that the last 7 threads have run.
Act in character! Pretty simple, your character should not be doing things he wouldn't do normally. the goal here is to act like your character, after all.
Actually contribute to the plot with your posts.
Try not to lay down soliloquy after soliloquy for your character. they should contribute by either, say, talking with another person, fighting, screwing, getting past obstacles, or erecting their own obstacles to challenge the group.
You control your character ONLY
You can't randomly take over someone else's character. This can only be broken if-
1. the character is necessary to a plot, but the player is unable to post. Keep the posts simple as you act as their character, keep the character in character
2. another player says its fine to use your character. Loaning is fine, just please, try not to get that character killed while using him!
No overpowered characters-
pretty simple. if your character is immortal, they should not be participating in combat. The combat of this thread is meant to be enjoyable. Its not fun when you pull out the equivalent of Goku or Superman just to beat people endlessly.
How would you make sure your character isn't over powered?
Characters can't instant kill, without the other players consent.
Characters should weaken if they attack constantly.
characters shouldn't have 500 different moves they can pull in combat.
Try to explain these moves and powers simply. You may be well versed in all the mythos and stories of the universe your characters are from, but some won't be. Hell, some might not have even HEARD of your character before.
Your character should respond to attacks in some way. if he gets hit, even if the hit wouldn't wound, don't ignore it. Post a reaction of some sort, even if the reaction is simply you stating that the attack did no damage.
No excessive posts- try not to flood the board with huge essays for everything. you opening a door? say you're opening a door. No need to slam out a 2 page essay about everything in the room, the characters thoughts, and what his flashlight's battery level is currently at.
That being said, do freshen it up a bit. ted stabbed john is a boring statement, and so if you could please spice it up a bit, with a little bit of extra detailing, that would be ideal. If you feel you should cover the characters feelings, do so.
Th DM's word is law
If I or Outis make a statement about how you're acting, you need to correct yourself. there will be problems if you ignore the GMs.
Oh, and one thing to consider:
Expect some spoilers.
There will be characters used from established properties. They might very well reveal parts of these properties, story wise. If you have a problem with that, you'll do best to avoid those characters.
Also, if you could use spoiler tags whenever something is just ginormous, that would be just brilliant. We want to avoid cluttering the thread. This huge rulebook is a good example!
Things you could probably use (This is shamelessly ripped from the last thread, thanks go out to Dirty Cop James Fun)
-OOC means Out Of Character. Use this if you want to ask a question or make a suggestion.
-Use @[player name]: to address a player specifically in OoC comments.
-OP means over-powered.
-Use italics for thoughts. [*i]text[*/i] without the *
-To use coloured text: [*color=Any colour you want]text[*/color] without the *
-To use named spoiler tags: [*spoiler=Something you want to name it]text[*/spoiler] without the *
-To use images: [*img]Image url[*/img] without the *
-To use YouTube videos: [*youtube=Insert video code] without the *
-If a player missed a few pages, please give them a summary (a few lines explaining what you did since their last post).
-If you have to leave, either kill your character or put them On A Bus (give a valid reason for them to leave, ie they fell into a temporary wormhole).
-From time to time, we get in major and large group battles. At those times, the person controlling the battle will ask for who is getting involved. Once everyone confirms, they will assign those people into two or more groups, and begin the battle calling for that Group's reactions. Once those players have replied, the person controlling the battle will react to all of their posts and move on the the next group. This continues until the conflict is resolved.
Participants are not to post a reaction until it is the turn of the group they are in.
Your posts MUST make sense.
We're short on sense to begin with, so assaulting what little sense and understanding we have left is a dangerous thing.
If it isn't from your character's universe, you don't know about it, unless you actually interact with it. No jelly monsters in your universe? You better damn well have a reaction to finding one in this then. (Of course, weary acceptance that you don't know whats coming around the corner and living with it is a really good reaction, so go ahead and use it.
Finally, we come to a few rules and guidelines in this thread that should be noted.
The Multiverse:
Yep, for this thread, we'll doing a lot more exploring of universes, with a focus on the idea of universal interaction.
This means that we'll be visiting a lot of strange places.
You can use this feature, once we reach a certain point, to set up plots of your own.
We want to encourage everyone creating their own plots, and to improve the fun for everyone. No way I could manage everything myself, and hand produce all the fun.
That being said, contact either Dot or I and let us know what your plot was about, and be willing to make edits to the idea of the plot based on what Dot or I suggest.
Something important to note-
This universe, unlike any previously visited, is well familiar with the idea of universal travel. that includes the police force and military. If you commit illegal acts or try to go against the big government, there will be consequences. They will be much more careful, much more aware, and much more willing to hunt down and lock up people who pose a serious risk to the order of things. Of course, that might be just what you want to do, so go nuts. Just be aware of the consequences of going nuts.
with that, everything's that needs to be stated has been. I sincerely hope you enjoy the thread.
Do your best to actually follow the rules, or face punishment by the DMs.
