Weird late 90s/early 2000s LEGO video games.

I remember having a bunch of these games when I was younger and I wanted to know if anyone had any memories of these sort of games. At the time there were lots of games like these and I loved them so tell me what your experiences were with these games (if you had any) or if you even remember some of them.

There were lots more then these but these three were the ones I remember the most. My favorite out of these three was lego rock raiders as it was my first RTS and had a cool feel that was challenging for a young person with clear objectives that encouraged exploring.

Though I must say, LEGO island felt like my first ever psychedelic experience.

Lego Island was amazing. I loved it so much as a kid, along with Legoland and Lego Creator. Sadly, they are a complete pain in the ass to install on modern computers due to the DRM they have along with the fact that they are full 32-bit games...with 16-bit installers. >.>

I've been trying to get a way to play Lego Island and Legoland again for over 2 years now, but I can't get it stable. T^T

Lego games on the PC in general were the only real PC games I'd play since back then PC gaming wasn't really as convenient as console gaming.

Lego island on the pc was sort of fun (lethargy and cheapness aside) but on the gameboy color it was a nightmare, and awful.

Alpha team was sort of fun, but got old fast.

Lego racers 1 was a classic but doesn't really draw me back to it.

Lego racers 2 was amazing imo and you could easily argue that it was the best lego game ever. I think it actually was what inspired burnout paradise. I couldn't be damned to do all the exploration again, although it was a blast the first time.

Rock raiders was also very good and I personally believe rock raiders is the best lego game. Probably not very good as far as balance goes, and doesn't even have the sense of wonder that lego racers 2 had, but the challenges are more interesting and engaging. You felt really punished or rewarded for many little bits of exploration in rock raiders, whereas in lego racers 2 a lot of the map felt empty.

The lego star wars and other types of games like lego indiana Jones are okay and have a little bit of exploration but you could really see they where less ambitious. There also isn't really a clear skill requirement since it goes for appealing to kids, but even as a kid I was more bored by them.

Bionicle games had the same issue as the beat em up series, they where linear and couldn't really draw me to 100% them. I didn't play all of them though, just one or two.

I never knew lego island was on gameboy colour. I've got to find that.

I don't even know what alpha team is.

The rest I can agree with you on but did you mean the pc rock raiders or the playstation one?

I only ever played this one and quite frankly, it was TERRIBLE, the camera was awkward and unresponsive and the block placement mechanic was really hard to get right. If you wanted to build huge awesome castles, well you better have an endless amount of patience!

pc version

gameboy color version is an entirely different game, it's also actually the more classic and proper lego island as far as I know, but i'm not into it. I think it was on the snes(?)

alpha team is just a puzzle game for one of their sets.

I remember playing the normal lego builder

You could easily say it was a bad game but it was a ton of fun when I was younger. I would build a city and then use tnt at it's maximum settings. to blow it up, then I took screenshot of the destruction and pretended to be journalists recording terrorism.

I think it's just occurring to me now that i've probably played every lego video game.

I played Lego creator and lego Island (PC) and Lego Island 2 GBC). Though I don't remember much about them. And it wasn't just sucking money out of the wallets of little children, these games also thought me valuable lessons. Such as don't feed convicted criminals pizza.

It also taught me that freeing criminals has no ramifications at all, seeing as Mama and Papa give the Brickster another pizza in the second game, despite there being a "No Pizza" sign right in front of the jail cell, and the police watching you deliver the pizzas. XD

Really wish I could get them to work on my 64-bit computer without crashing. I got the PS1 version of Lego Island 2, wondering how it was and by god was it bad.

I had Lego Racers 2, which my cousin stole for about five years and eventually returned. I still have it sitting around in my room somewhere. I remember it was the the first and only game to get me to cry in frustration. Fucking Berg was the most bullshit thing to ever exist.

I also had Lego Island 2, which I until last year I could never get past catching Big Bertha for the page you needed. I finally beat it sometime last year. One of the greatest gaming achievements.

Lego Island 2 ruined my Memory Card....(My 3rd year Harvest Moon Saves...), After destroying the saves, it made future saves invinsible in the main psx menu, and had to go to games that have internal MC Delete/Copy functions to modify it.

Aside from screwing that, I like the game, Wished it has a spiritual sequel or some kind. Didn't like Lego Racers much though, too easy with the green block spamming.

Just a few years ago I went back and played, and finally finished, Lego Rock Raiders. If I had to pick a game from my childhood it would be that one! I remember playing it all the time when I was younger, but never managing to finish it. It's one game I would not at all oppose a remake/remastery of!
