What alternate history would you like to see in game?

I've just rewatched yahtzee's review on singularity and got to thinking about how all alternate histories shown in games involve the cold war or WW2. There are so many other potentially more interesting scenarios.

For example I like to see the civil war fought on brontosauruses.

For a more serious and compelling scenario, I'd like to see a 21st century where the dark ages from the middle ages had just ended, after hindering art and science for over a thousand years, and the 21st century sees a new renaissance period. During this time some groups of people try to break away from the near-global control of the church, by establishing more capitalist, "almost-rapture-like" societies to work on research. Better for an RPG.

Anyway, what alternate history would you like a game to have?

I would like to see an alternate American history game where the Vikings stayed in North America, later expanding to the rest of North America, Especially the eastern seaboard so that they could access the european and african coasts

Ninja'd on such an obscure point!

Well played.

*grumble*

Ok, fine. I'd like to see an alternate history where Justinian wasn't a total dick to Belisarius, and the Eastern Roman Empire reconquered its old provinces, faced the Turks down and won, and established a dominion over a whole chunk of Europe.

Rome never declined and took over the entire world, or colombus never "discovered' the americas and the native american tribes became nations just like the ones today.

One in which Og the caveman never got around to inventing the club, never tamed horses but rather and rode an alligator named Murphy and brandished a rifle instead.

Just imagine it.

The only problem I could see is the further back you change things, the less likely it is the future would remain close. If the Romans had conquered England, would America exist in a recognisable enough state to engage in war?[footnote]Please don't point out my ignorance of American history. I'm Australian, and even OUR history bores me to tears.[/footnote]

Of course, with narrative license, anything goes. Therefore, I wish to see an Australian superpower at war with the Viking empire. Simply because.

I would like to see one where African slaves successfully revolted in the Americas, allied with the Native Americans for local knowledge, then killed all the settlers. The european countries drew out out of fear of losing capital, and for generations tribes rule over the American continents. Then, in 1999, modern scientests chart one final exploration into the depths of America, to discover one of the most technologically advanced primitive societies around. I think it would be sooooo interesting.

Someone goes back in time and messes up the battle of Waterloo. So some European super task force must go back and fix it.

Neanderthals never died out and continued to live along with today's humans. So there are two different versions of humans in the present day.

Can have them evolve in some further way to add whatever other differences would be necessary for the plot/gameplay. Then have wars or them uniting together against someone else or something.

I game where space monkeys come down to Earth during Anglo-Saxon times (invading England and the Europe first)...riding cobras that shoot lazers out of their eyes. Time to fight off those dang space monkeys with your battle axe. I'd settle for having the world conquered then revolting a few hundred years later with advanced tech.

I'd also like to see random and mostly arbitrary changes to the world map. Austrailia takes over most of Soutern Asia, Russia controls most of Northern Asia and Western Europe, the Vikings are sitll around in North America, and of course, Greendland is the worlds single most feared superpower.

Ancient Mesopotamia fighting back the Persians and invading Persia, Rome fighting stronger Gauls in Germania, France breaking ties with the US to gain control of North America (includes recapturing Canada.)

The Triple Alliance overtaking Europe and Britain before the Americans can get into the fighting, and proceeding with the invasion of North America.

Idk, all I can think of.

Actually, let's have all alternate histories in a game. That's right, a Sliders game.

Why the hell not?

I'd like to see an RTS game based on "The Guns of the South", if you don't know the book white supremacist South Africans travelled back to the American Civil War and gave the confederates AK-47s, it's a very good book, and it deconstructs the "Hollywood history" of the American Civil War (it wasn't just about slavery) that the South Africans bought into.

An RTS where everything became a perfect Utopia! Let's summon some evil stuff and mess it up! I guess you could call it a relative to Dungeon Keeper. Actually... that sounds like a blast and a half.
