I've often seen characters in novels described as having high cheekbones, but I can't understand what this is supposed to look like. Is it possible to have low cheekbones? I just don't know what I'm supposed to be picturing.

So could someone please explain what having high cheekbones means? Pictures comparing someone with high cheekbones to someone without would be really helpful. Remember to use spoiler tags!

Cate Blanchett has high cheekbones.

Also Johnny Depp.

Can't think of any "low cheekboned" personality right now. I guess it's not really about the placement of the cheekbone but their angle and protuberance. Typically high cheekbones are seen as more alluring and leadingperson-ish, because reasons.

Angelina Jolie in Maleficent has high cheekbones. Obviously exaggerated, but yeah.

See how there is that prominence just under the eyes and how it kind of shapes the face to more of a point.

Notice how his face isn't as sharp? Still really prominent, but in the other direction.

Geez, I hope that makes sense.

Means your cheek bone is closer to the eye-socket. It usually result in a face looking less round and cheeks more defined. If you want to see that go into any game with a decent character generator and play with the cheek sliders.

that seems like a good description

I was going to say to me it doesn't seem like height as it does prominence, like you can actually see them
