I didn't see much Zelda but yeah this felt totally like a derivative of Okami to me. Though I'm really not a fan of the art direction. It feels less cutesy and more kiddie in a sense. Could still be a good game though.Kena: Bridge of Spirits has my attention at the moment. Cutesy action adventure game in the vein of Zelda and maybe a hint of Okami? Sign me up.
It looks really good. I mean, it could be utter crap, but I really hope not. Like happyninja42, I'm going to see how the PS4 version is, it might mean waiting a couple of years until I get a PS5. Please be good.
Yeah I don't know about the Zelda influence, but a lot of people on YT seem to think so. I recall seeing several reaction videos to the release trailer, that they felt it was spiritually inspired by Zelda. I can't recall if they specifically cited a title, like BotW, given how vastly different the Zelda games are. But it's definitely an comparison that's out there.I didn't see much Zelda but yeah this felt totally like a derivative of Okami to me. Though I'm really not a fan of the art direction. I just dig the premise of it, the tone of that first cinematic trailer really hit me in my Yes Please brain stem. This child with a connection to the spirit world, that feels a sense of guardianship over it, discovers a corruption in it, and tries to help/free the spirits. The narrator/antagonist specifically says "You think you can help these troubled spirits" Cut to some of the monsters she will be fighting. So it's implied, between that, and the cleansing energy burst thing she does at the end, that she's going around, literally cleansing the spirits and the land of the evil influence. So she's not killing the spirits, she's getting rid of the stuff making them hostile. Plus, one of her weapons, is collecting an army of adorable little fuzzballs, that are apparently capable of channeling her power into impressive forms of attack, and that just tickles me so much. Like an army of plushies, that when combined, are a titanic powerhouse of asskicking, that's just fantastic.Kena: Bridge of Spirits has my attention at the moment. Well that takes a lot of the pressure off for whether I will play it next year. I knew they pushed back release due to covid, just didn't recall when that would push it back.I want to play Bridge Of Spirits too, but that doesn't come out till 2022.
As far as influences, yes there's a little bit of Zelda and Okami, but more so the latter. Yet, I'm seeing hints of Beyond Good & Evil and Pikmin. The visual style has a whole Pixar meets Avatar The Last Airbender feel to it.Yeah I don't know about the Zelda influence, but a lot of people on YT seem to think so. The music seems to be right in my sweet spot of powerful drums, and high vocals (the trailer music reminds me a LOT of some of the tracks from the Akira soundtrack), sweeping string instruments. It just, feels like it's got a lot of time and attention on aspects that, for me at least, are the kinds of things I want to see in a game. The mechanics of it might be horrible, but so far, I like what I see.
