Sci-Fi Horror- Pandorum and Event Horizon.
Sci-Fi (anything non-horror) Fifth Element and the original Star Wars trilogy.
Dark Comedy- 8 Heads in a dufflebag, Death to Smoochy and Bad Santa

Ok, I'm a film student/film maker so I'm probably supposed to say something like Citizen Kane or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind(both great films) but if I'm going to be honest then I'll have to say...

Predator.

Now I know it's not the most technically great films of all time(it's not even the most technically great Schwarzenegger film, Terminator's cinematography, script, acting, hell just about every facet, are vastly superior) but there is something about the film that I just love. I've seen it over a thousand times and it is one of the only movies I could sit down and watch at anytime and not be bored for an instant. It's probably the whole nostalgia thing, I first watch Predator(many times) when I was about three so I guess it just evokes those same feelings of excitement when I watch the film now.

I'm also a huge, huge horror fan(especially horror from the 70's and 80's) so I love my Halloween's, Nightmare On Elm St's, Friday The 13th's, Hellraiser's, etc.

And I have to throw a shout out to Toxic Avenger because well, it's Toxic Avenger.
This makes me hopeful that there are more film studentslike you. GO FORTH AND MAKE MOVIES METAL AGAIN!

OT: umm...I dunno, Detroit Rock City, School of Rock, Predator, Universal Soldier, Expendables 1 and 2.

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey: Let me be clear. I don't give a flying fuck if you think this movie moves slowly, got it? It's a 2 and a half hour exploration of life itself. I wasn't kidding when I said that I thought Kubrick was the greatest filmmaker and I think this is his masterpiece. Every second of this movie is perfect, and I've never seen a movie tackle everything from birth, death, life, oblivion, ascendence, and everything in between, so fantactically before or since. In my opinion, 2001 is the greatest film ever made.
Um. Yes. This. Greatest film ever made -- without question.

Blade Runner is hands down my all time favorite movie, the "Tears in Rain" scene was the first time I remember a movie causing such a huge emotional response in me.

What? Like posting on the Escapist?

For me, no real true favorites. I suppose I've always loved Spirited Away, and I've probably seen it more than any other film. It's either that or The Fugitive. That was a really good action flick that's just drenched in nostalgia for me. Being John Malchovich is up there too.

Geez, I don't think I can name an absolute favourite, but a few lot of my favourites are:

The Dark Knight.
LOTR. Every single one of them, including The Hobbit.
Harry Potter. Again, every one of them.
Back to the Future. All 3.
Pulp Fiction.
Inglorious Bastards.
Django.
The Green Mile.
Catch me if you can.
Braveheart.
Blade.
Inception.
The Shining.
Full Metal Jacket.
Star Trek. (The reboot)

I'm sure there are plenty more I'd be willing to call my favourites, but these come to mind.

Favorite films of the top of my head in no particular order:

Nightmare before christmas
Aliens
Terminator 2
Amelie
Toy Story
Lion king
Full Metal Jacket
Empire Strikes Back
Scarface
Un fil a la patte (at this point i realized that its pointless listing non english films that never got released internationally so this will be one and only example of its kind)
Event horizon
Robocop 1
Crouching tiger, hidden dragon
Die hard 3:with a vengeance
Rocky 1-2-3-4-5-6
Escape from L.A
Soldier (or was it universal soldier? eugh so many similar sounding titles, basically sci fi where kurt russel is part of a infantry unit that gets made obsolete by new generation of super soldiers, ends up on garbage planet and gets accepted by a society of scavengers who are then the testing ground and living target practice for the super soldiers, kurt russel ends up fighting back and slaughtering the invaders)

Mm reckon il stop here, this is a long enough post.

Branded to Kill is my favourite film ever and I've never met anyone else who's even heard of it.
I think it is safe to say that Jim Jarmusch has heard of it. Now who is Number One?

This changes for me every day, but today I'll say

Once Upon a Time in the West (Oh that opening sequence at the train station...)

Blade Runner (Eyes. I only do eyes...)

The In-Laws (1979 film with Alan Arkin and Peter Falk, not the lacklustre re-make.)

Miller's Crossing (There's nothing more foolish than a man chasing after a hat.)

Hell in the Pacific (Lee Marvin! Toshiro Mifune! Two WW2 vets play...WW2 soldiers alone on an island continuing the war. Awesome stuff.)

and

The Third Man (Dun da dun da da, dun da dun da da...)
