I want to see what you guys have played and what you guys play now along with why you play that/those game(s) now. I'll go first to give an example.

I have played Everquest, Everquest II, Ragnarok Online, EvE Online, Final Fantasy XI, and World of Warcraft.

Currently, I'm playing City of Heroes. Out of all the MMOs I've played, I found this game to be the most entertaining and all-around fun out of the lot. From character customization to the combat, I found it the most unique and enjoyable. I have yet to find another MMO which would allow me to push a button in front of fifteen enemies causing them to blow off of a 50 story building to their deaths. Sure, the combat can get repetitive, but that's the nature of MMOs. And even with that, parties in missions give it a more arcade Gauntlet Legends type of feel which I particularly enjoy.

The other games I've played were either good or just plain annoying. Warcraft was a lot of fun until I realized the pointlessness of dealing with arrogantly rude people in guilds. That wasn't the only reason; the raiding/endgame for me got very, very boring. Sitting at a computer for several hours listening to someone barking orders isn't exactly my cup of tea...

Yeah, yeah, I know there are other options for what you can do in the game, but after raiding, the magic Warcraft had for me faded.

Everquest and Everquest II were just too "real" for me. I know that sounds silly, but the atmosphere of the game was what drew me away from it. It was going for a fantasy realism, which is cool, but not for me.

EvE-Online...yeah...I tried to like this game, I really, really tried, but I think Mr. Croshaw described the grievances I have with this game pretty accurately.

Ragnarok Online was my first MMO, and I actually loved it for what it was. But the game got too repetitive (even for an MMO), and I couldn't get much of a community feel like I could with the other games.

Lastly...Final Fantasy XI. ...well...OK, this is my least favorite of the games I've played. A ridiculously long install process, annoying PlayOnline system, clunky interface, everything looked brown and gray, AND total lack of immersion were what kept me from enjoying this game along with several other reasons.

So...what are your MMORPG experiences?

My first and only (not surprisingly) MMORPG was Maplestory. Please don't kill me, it was free and Im a cheapo. It took me a while to realise how terrible it was and thereafter made a solemn vow to never play a MMO again.

I started with WoW, close to four years ago (I can't believe it's been that long, I really can't. So much of my life devoted to WoW... it's not necessarily a good thing). I've been gaming for decades but never played an MMO until then.

I tried Guild Wars, thought it was quite good, had potential, but I could only really afford the time to devote to one MMO. WoW was it.

Tried FFXI, it almost made me want to kill myself, but I'm a huge FF fan and I would have persevered, but I could only really afford the time to devote to one MMO. WoW was it.

Tried Warhammer Online, loved it in many respects. But I could only really afford the time to devote to one MMO. WoW was it. But it was a close call.

I don't play WoW so much these days, but my subscriptions still going, and I can't imagine cancelling it anytime soon.

Ah I've been to plenty of MMO's in my day -- Lets see.

Lineage II
World of Warcraft [and all Expansions]
City of Villans
Ragnarok Online
Archlord
Angels Online
RF Online
Star Wars: Galaxies
Space Cowboys / Ace Online

ugh..man..I KNOW there are more i've played, i just cant seem to think of any..
I've enjoyed all of those i just listed, some more than others.
I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan, so i got into Galaxies quite easily.
City of Villians was different than most so i rather enjoyed it.
WoW well..thats WoW dude, shouldnt need an explanation its just overall great.
Ragnarok Online oh man, i loved that, i think it was either me 1st or 2nd MMO and it was really addicting.
RF Online and Archlord are Free-to-Play MMO's both actually really good, run off of Codemaster Server, and they're both pretty good, i still kinda play both, though not so much.
Space Cowboys [now known as Ace Online] is a Sci-fi piloting MMO that was pretty fun to play got a bunch of my friends into that for awhile, but we eventually just kinda stopped. Not sure why, it was awesome..
But..If i had to pick.
out of all of those, Lineage 2. i LOVED that game, and i still do. ah if only i felt like paying for it.
MMO's are hard for me to get into, but i try so very hard and, sooner or later, i'll succeed too.

Good Post -

You could take that as a blessing or a curse. It's a blessing in the sense you won't sell your soul to an MMO, but it's a curse because you'll never know what a good one tastes like.

On the other hand, some people never get into 'em.

I used to play World of Warcraft, quit because I didn't think it was worth what I was paying for it. I've begun playing Guild Wars recently, and it's quite good

Ragnarok Online is my first MMO, not counting Guild Wars. Because GW is not a MMO, it's oRPG.

But it was awesome. Not on official server, of course. And not because I'm too cheap to pay $15. It's just too much grinding for me... Plus, it's either Europe with French and Germans speaking only their language, or America with different time zones (so the best part of RO, War of Emperium, would be unreachable for me). I'd rather have British servers where I don't have to grind my ass 24/7 to show my skill in PvP.

Tried playing WoW three times on official, twice on privates... I just don't like the game. Too boring and too pointless.

Lineage 2 - same, although L2 has better graphics and cooler character design.

Warhammer Online - was going to be cool, bought it for $50 in pre-order, but got bored after 2 months. Boredom and the fact that my poor Engineer got even worse. He's actually the worst class now. Maybe I'll try it again in a month, because I love ORvR.

City of Heroes - now THAT'S a good game. Maybe because there isn't as much grind as in other games, maybe it's because I can create a Brute that rampages through enemies and doesn't stop to heal (Willpower ftw), I just can't say no to that game.

Guild Wars - used to be good, now I only play it 30-60 minutes a day (if at all) to PvP. Because in PvE there is only pointless grind for titles left.

I'm also starting to like Planetside. I already love the Phoenix - the easiest guided missile launcher I've seen :] I really have something for rocket launchers...

Waiting for Aion, as I also enjoy the concept of flying and fighting at the same time. I hope the US/EU beta will be soon...

I also tried to play RF Online, but it was too boring. Endured to level 18 and couldn't take more of repetitiveness.
