In another conversation, we spoke of our piles of shame and what would be our next 5 games. So many distractions but for me, games I'm already into but need to finish:

Batman Gotham Knights: I'm supposed to chase Gordon around and don't want to do so. Like an escort mission. I hate 'em. But I know if I get past it, so much else to do.
Dishonored. I own D2 already. Need to finish D1 first! I hate that killing my enemies makes the game harder with more infected and rats.
Brace yourselves. Star Wars, Force Unleashed 2 10 years later. Just played and advanced some. Very fun. Just, gotta not get distracted.
Horizon Zero Dawn: Amazing game, especially with 5.1 surround sound. All the noises coming from critters around you. Gotta get the hang of swapping weapons.
Breath of the Wild: Liking it. For Wii U. I am sooo far behind.

Honorable mentions:
Jedi Fallen Order
Red Dead II
Witcher 3
Fallout 4
GTA 5

You?

Currently working through

1 Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island
Tainted Grail: Conquest

2 I'm probably going to pick up Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, though that's mostly on friend recommendation, given what I like in my games. He felt the premise of it is right up my alley. We'll see if I can enjoy the gameplay enough to play through it. That Baldur's Gate, isometric point and click style game doesn't always do it for me.

3 Against the Storm should be coming out in a month or so, that's on my list for sure.

4 I've been debating loading up the full game of Werewolf: The Apocalypse: Heart of the Forest lately.

5 uuuuh....dunno, Dying Light 2 probably? *shrugs* depends on my timetable of stuff.

Okay, I'm gonna divide this into two sections.

Games I haven't finished and probably should:
-Salt and Sanctuary. Got the third Lamb and stopped and....never really got back to it.
-Hades. I put it down and, well, never actually picked it back up again. I like the characters and the artwork, it's just the gameplay loop was starting to frustrate me.
-Hyper Light Drifter. Finished the first two of the three areas, got to the cat samurai boss and...you guessed it, put it down and never finished it.
-Octopath Traveler. FInished all of the Chapter 1s, and got like a decent chunk of the chapter 2s before stopping and.....can you see a pattern forming here?
-The Outer Wilds. Love the Concept, having issues with having to redo all my progress every 20 min.

Games I want to play in the near future:
-God of War 2018. I've heard a lot of good things about it and I want to stop dodging spoilers.
-Psychonauts 2(and by extension, replaying the original first). I adored the first game and apparently the sequel is much the same so probably enjoy that.
-Cris Tales. An JRPG-type game about time travel. Enjoyed the Demo and enjoyed it and kinda look forward to playing the actual game.
-Project: Wingman. It's apparently Ace Combat with the serial numbers filed off, made by people who really like Ace Combat for people who also really like Ace Combat. As a person who likes Ace Combat, this sounds pretty good(and so have the reviews and trailers).
-Blasphemous. I love the idea behind this and the artstyle, I just haven't gotten around to actually playing it yet.

I've only played these games but I enjoyed all of them immensely for various reasons. Of course, all of them but Dishonored are long as hell so each of them is a time commitment. If I had to pick only one of those, it would be Red Dead 2 but it's a tough call. The fact Red Dead 2 is one of the few games that made me feel legitimately sad because of the execution of certain plot and character beats is probably what puts it over the top for me.

Or in other words.....Red Dead Depression.

1, 2, and 3 are games I picked up for free on Epic and they are to tide me over until we get a release on the last 2. Also, after the first sale or price drop I'll probably get Far Cry 6. But its a Far Cry game. Fun but they only take about a weekend or so and then they're gone. And they won't beat 5, the verisimilitude of playing a Far Cry in a familiar setting really made that experience pop for me. Going back to an island nation... yawn. City in that island nation... intriguing, but I'm not going to be impressed by anything less than what they did with Watch Dogs. Otherwise it'll just be Just Cause 2 again, and that was 11 years ago. So I'll get Far Cry 6, but I'm not really anticipating much. And considering what they are proposing for 7, 6 will end the franchise for me anyway.

Is it going to cost me money, or is it free with my old purchase?

I liked the game, but dont see any point in paying money for remasters. Eg. I'm not paying money for Diablo 2 remaster.
Dunno. Talk about coincidence: was complaining Steam didn't do that for Saints Row 3 and like, the next day, Epic was giving it away.
ITMT it isn't even on Steam yet:

Tales of Arise, Lost Judgement and Death Stranding director's cut. Love the Tales series(well, a few games in that series anyway) and I really like what I've seen of Arise so far. I had a great time with Judgement so really looking forward to it's sequel. I've been playing Death Stranding on and off in the last year and the game has really started to grow on me. There is a certain mystique to the world I really like and the movement and delivery mechanics are strangely satisfying.

My 'pile of shame' is looking more like a 'pile of donations' at this point. Most of those games I got at a sale or because of some youtubers recommendation only to realize it's really not my type of game. There are some gems I would have never picked up otherwise like Disco Elysium, Subnautica and Pathologic 2 b/c they wouldn't be on my radar but most games I buy based on other people's recommendation I always end up deleting. Like, it took me a long time to figure out I really don't like metroidvanias lmao. But then there is a game like Ender Lillies and I really enjoy it(?)

I can't possibly answer this. I choose my next game entirely by impulse. I might play something from my huge backlog or something completely different. I couldn't even tell you the next game I'll play, let alone the next five.

I'm still in the middle of No More Heroes 3 and I'll be playing more of that when I get home from work.

No current order:

  • Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 & 2
  • Oneechabara Origins - still waiting for a sale and price drop on it. I know it's a remake of two games, but it's been nearly a year and they still haven't done a price drop yet.
  • Shadow of Colossus Remake
  • GG Strive
  • Crash 4
Like I said before, it's no particular order, and the list might change.

GoW is a treat and worthy of its adulation, plus it has extra resonance for parental figures. I’d say keeping it at the top of your list is a good thing.

On topic, I’ve gotten back into RDO recently to take advantage of the QuickDraw pass goodies and recent updates. Two down and two more to go. I’m hoping the Halloween update will be some form of Undead Nightmare 2 but might be wishful thinking. At least it’ll be free for QuickDraw completionists (as in not even requiring in-game currency), which only takes two or three sessions each even for me.

In the meantime, been meaning to get through:

Sekiro for Platinum. Just need the Shura ending and to finish upgrading stuff

Infamous: Second Son. I’m over half way through. Haven’t decided if I want to Platinum it yet but it will depend on how the gameplay loop feels by the end of my “good” play through.

MGSV. Been also wanting to Platinum this, but am feeling the fatigue of repetition. Got 75% of side ops done, then moving to finish S ranks which I’ve done all but two of in Chapter 2, so finishing the Chapter 1 stuff shouldn’t be too bad. Saving mission tasks and animal rescues for last, as while tedious they offer the most variety.

The Witcher 3. Have about 90 hours into it. Built my PC for it so kinda ironic it’s been sitting unfinished so long. It’s been fun when I’ve played though, so looking forward to it once I have a cleaner time slate to dedicate to it.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance. About 100 hours in but taking my time doing everything. It’s a nice contrast to TW3 with deeper gameplay but less enjoyable story.

There are others (finishing Wolfenstein: TNO, The Evil Within, Bayonetta, DOOM 2016, F.E.A.R. to name a few) but I’d like to get the longer titles checked off first.

SotC Remake is a great remake of the Original. If you've already played that one you know exactly what you're getting but it looks nicer now.

Did you play the Last Guardian or do you plan to? I know that one is more divisive(I really dug it but I get why people don't).

Yeah I got it for free and it sure makes me want to play it again.

Like, I understand they put effort in to remaster it. I'm probably will to shill out a few bob just to respect that effort. But anything above $10 is just.... I'll go play the old one thanks

Sekiro is another one that, if I saw it for $20, could likely get me to break my rule against buying new games for a while until I finish some of my backlog. I just keep hearing great things about it.

I really enjoyed it, except for the final boss who left a bad taste in my mouth(that's the nice version way of putting it). As long as you go into it knowing it's a SOULS-like with some modifications you should be fine.

male, pronouns: your majesty/my lord/daddy
Tsukihime: a piece of blue glass moon (classic visual novel remake, this one is prolly not getting localized for a loooooong while, I've actually already bought this, waiting for playasia to ship it, fedex says it's in Arkansas right now)

Melty Blood - Type Lumina (fighting game based on the above game's world, coming out in a month, this one is being released worldwide at the same time)

BG2 enhanced edition (I am in the middle of a bg1 playthrough right now, my Half-Orc berserker is tearing shit up)

Astria Arise (people don't know this game exists, it's incredible, look it up, classic hand drawn jrpg with folks from vagrant story, FF, nier, bravely series working on it, including the writer for ffx, also the jp version comes out with an english subs/text option so no need to wait for localization if you don't know JP like I do)

And I guess by the time I'm done with all of these things Elden Ring will be close enough so I'll go with that to wrap things up.

So yeah, we got max animu, fighting game complexity, classic wrpg and jrpg goodness and a game that needs no easymode, heaven~

Also tsukihime has literally the highest quality visual novel intro ever made.

This is on par with ufotable's anime film quality.
