You may know the song Lilium right? the opening theme to Elfen Lied. Well I can't figure out what music category it would fall under, would it be classical?....or maybe it falls under Hymn I have no clue. So when i can't figure something out I turn to the forums to get my answer. So escapist...what category would Lilium fall under?

Maybe you should post the song here for people like me who don't watch Elfen thingy but know stuff about music and may be able to help.

Without having heard it, "Lied" is actually a musical genre (look it up) so perhaps it falls under that, because presumably that's what the title of the series is referring to.

EDIT: thanks for posting it. I guessed correctly, it's a modern song but done in the "Lied" style.

I just did, I was on my School computer and i would have done it but youtube is blocked, so i just used my laptop. And Elfen Lied is the name of the Anime, Lilium is the name of the song. Elfenlied is a name of a song though but its unrelated to Lilium

Edit* and the song is Latin

Okay, the song's in Latin then. It's still a "Lied", whoever put it together is consciously mimicking that particular style of writing.

I followed your link to the wikipedia page and it is absolutely not a Lied

here are the English translated lyrics:
The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom
And his language shall be spoken in judgment
Blessed is he who suffers temptation
Since he, with approval, shall receive the crown of life
Lord, fire divine, have mercy
Oh how holy
How serene
How kind
How pleasant
Oh, lily of chastity!
Lord, fire by divine, have mercy
Oh how sacred
Oh, How serene
How bevolent
How lovely
Lily of chastity

That's why im thinking its a Hymn

oh and its Laid is not pronounced as it is spelled. its does not sound like "I just got Laid", its sounds like "Leed" as in "we have the lead in the game".

I suppose you could extrapolate from the lyrics that it's a hymn, but the music isn't very much in the hymn style at all, it's definitely 100% romantic Lied style songwriting musically. And yeah I'm aware of the pronunciation.

Modern classic (as oxymoronic as that sounds...)? I'm not really an expert on musical styles so I can't really say for certainty. It does have a classical sound to it though, perhaps it would be orchestral? I think that is the correct style.
