What direction should Bioshock 3 take?

Bioshock is an incredible game and I really loved Bioshock 2 but I really doubt they can squeeze much for from the Rapture setting yet again at this stage. Where do you think any future games should be set? A different failed utopia in the same way System Shock 2 takes place on a different ship to the original in a Jurassic Park 'there is another island' style twist? Or go in the Half Life 2/Crysis 2 direction and make the whole thing global, possibly where the discoveries made in Rapture became known to the rest of the world and have had catastrophic effects? I think this is what they should have done in the first place when making a sequel. Half Life 2 didn't have us in Black Mesa once again.

Very interesting ideas about where the game could go, I admit! Perhaps, though, it could be a true prequel instead of a sequel that people assumed was a prequel? Further, maybe the protagonist could be a woman? Maybe you could play a little sister that grew up and, before they could change her fully, she escapes and thus works to find her way back to her parents that she was taken from so long ago and keep on with the parent issues that the series loves so much?

I don't think there should be another game in the series. They already proved with the sequel that they really have no idea how to expand on the epic original and are just blatantly re-using the same game mechanics with a gimmick attached. Bioshock worked because it was self-contained within Rapture - Rapture was the reason the game was such a big hit - it was a fantastic idea, and set a unique atmosphere that hasn't been replicated.

A sequel going "global" or "another island" take on the franchise would ruin all that was good with it...

The not existing direction. Although its inevitable a Bioshock 3 WILL be made because thats what the modern games industry is about right? Squeezing sequels out of an IP until it stops making money regardless of whether the respective IP actually needs sequels or not.

There shouldn't of even been a Bioshock 2.

The first installment was perfect as is. I was surprised when Bioshock 2 was announced and then disappointed when I found out that a different company was making the game. Don't get me wrong the idea was cool but after reading/watching some reviews it turned me off from it. Personally I think they just wanted to milk the title because the first game was so damn epic.

Another perfect example of this is the Matrix Trilogy. I don't care what anyone says, the second and third movie were garbage.

Set it in the future but still in rapture, but leave a big gap between it and bioshock 2. Fill the game with little bits of info about what happened but nothing in detail to leave players guessing. And add some mindfuck elements to it.

I still think there shouldn't be Bioshock 3. The original game was good precisely because it was original. Bioshock 2 could have been a prequel - but it was a sequel, and it was made by another company, automatically losing all credibility. Thus, even Bioshock 2 shouldn't have been made in the first place.

Genius. This is the best solution.

Everyone is saying what I was gonna say... So... I'm not gonna conform with you! In the words of Andy Sandberg, "I'm not gonna be a part of your System!"

It should take the direction they wanted to take for the first game, setting it somewhere else in the swamp/forest I believe it was.

They have two options.
1) Leave Rapture and start a whole new story in that universe because it's getting old, and Bioshock 2 was just milking it.
2) Axe the franchise.
Both very good options, because really Bioshock didn't need to exist past one game, but if they must milk it, create a whole new story that's only slightly related.
"I think I've worked out the formula now. A good sequel like Half-life 2, Silent Hill 2 is one that uses the original as a jumping off point for a whole new story with whole new technology."
-Yahtzee.
Actually I should just quote that entire review. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/1494-BioShock-2

Frankly, I'm surprised Bioshock 3 is being made. I don't think the original needed a sequel. That being said, if they do make a BS3, I'd like to see more into the history of rapture. What caused it to fall apart in the first place? let's go back to that.

It would be awesome if it would take years after the other games and the world finds out about Rapture and your job is to make sure that Rapture is kept safe.
Or destroy it or something like that for the bad ending.

You want to know my idea, the next one should be about the rest of the world trying to unlock rapture's secret by excavating the city.

It would make sense since the last games I was always wondering what the U.S. and USSRs impression of Rapture was and if they had any involvement or interests.

I mean think about it, giant underwater city full of technological advancements in building super soldiers?

This would be the only logical conclusion.

I would like to see a prequel to the first Bioshock personally, set at around the time that rapture started to go to pot.
Im not entirely sure if im correct here, but i think rapture was aparently a nice place at first, but then after the citizens kept on taking tonics and playing with thier genetics they started to act differently and a war/riot broke out which brought rapture crubbling to its knees.
If i am correct and this is what happened i would quite like to see a game set at the start of the trouble and leading through to the collapse of rapture

The best direction Bioshock should take is a hard left directly into the nearest industrial strength Incinerator.
