Now, on the far left we have Niamh, AKA Red (for her hood), an Irish girl now living in Yorkshire and looking after her elderly grandmother while her parents are back in Ireland. She ends up getting involved in the affairs of the blonde in the middle, Luna (the 'big bad wolf'), when her grandmother is killed and Niamh is wrongly blamed for the death. Luna is an out lesbian and Niamh is bi, and they also have something of a turbulent romantic relationship, made tougher given that Niamh suspects Luna had a hand in her grandmother's death.
In the background on the left, dancing and wearing a hat, are Alice Liddle, and her boyfriend Matt, also known as 'Mad', or the 'Mad Hatter' (for his awesome trilby). They are somewhat psychotic and in a fit of insanity caused by various induced visions of a twisted, horrific place known only as 'Wonderland', they murdered their respective families in cold blood. After spending the past year together at a mental institution near York under the care of Doctor Foster, a Gloucester-born psychiatrist, they have become much more stable though are now slightly prone to prophetic dreams and visions of the near future. They recently escaped from the institution with the help of Niamh, who they met inside after she was wrongly incarcerated for her grandmother's murder (though Alice, Mad, and Doctor Foster all believe her to be innocent and not insane at all), and ended up running into Luna soon afterwards.
Finally, on the far right, are Hansel and Gretel. They are on the run after Gretel killed her mother in self-defence, after finding that her mother planned to have them killed for the life insurance money she'd taken out on the kids and her husband some months earlier. Gretel, however, is somewhat insane anyway, as she'd become emotionally withdrawn and disturbed through a cold upbringing by her mother, and later snapped when her mother attempted to kill her. She's mostly emotionless and will do whatever it takes to protect herself and her twin brother, even murder, without any qualms. Hansel, meanwhile, is somewhat lazy and gets dragged along easily, but also has hidden depths and could well become a good leader. He's also quite smart, and willing to see the best in people. He looked after his sister through their childhood, and so she sees him as the one person aside from herself who she can trust and care about. Added to her psychotic tendencies and emotional disturbances, Gretel has come to develop an almost incestuous love for her brother, including finding him sexually attractive, though he is completely unaware of this. They join the previously established group while on the run in Yorkshire.
After coming together, the group has to deal with a larger threat relating to Luna's mysterious past, and face a conspiracy that stretches beyond the world they know, and into the realm of magic, gods and demons...
