Gaahhh i used to play a game called Runescape...I was so addicted to it, it wasnt even funny you can play for free and character creation is fast and there is alot to do

Battlefield Heroes. Oh wait-that's not out yet. Well, that'd be my answer if the game was released.

Oh man, I am just WAITING (hoping) to get accepted to the closed beta for that game! DAMN!

But look up Cortex Command. It's neat by itself and has tonnes of mods, even though its not technically finished.
Also something called Defcon, by Ambrosia. Very fun, based off the movie Wargames. Good stuff.

Spring RTS [http://spring.clan-sy.com/]. Careful, playing Spring will make you feel any commercial game's GUI is clunky. Yeah, takes a bit to figure out (you need to start the lobby, not spring.exe) but once you ghot it going any other RTS (and yes that does include Supreme Commander) will feel gimped control wise.

Psychonauts, Tomb Raider legend, Golden Axe, Streets of rage + hundreds of old classics/shovelware to dig through. Weeks of fun times to be had with just the free games alone from there.
