Elder Scrolls games. Gameplay shallow as a puddle, if not shallower. Needs to add depth beyond spamming left click. The older games were better for this, but had their own problems.

Mass Effect 1: The loot drop system needed a lot of work. Movement also could have been a bit nicer, and enemies with 1 hit kills really shouldn't exist [And I'm talking end-game Shepard vsing a level 10 enemy with a Rocket Launcher in a cramped corridor. 1 hit kills... no].
Would also like some more detail on the procedural landing zones, or at least some better designed and designated paths to get between places. Mako could also be a bit less sensitive.

Mass Effect 2: Fix its shitty shooting. More health needed for characters. Slower health regen. Less focus on sitting behind cover all day. A greater variety of enemies would also have been nice, rather than just mook, mook with armour, mook with all 3 armours, Heavy Weapons mook. Some enemies with unique tactics needed to beat them would have been nice. Should also put that in for above I guess.
Also, unique cooldowns on abilities rather than shared cooldowns. That was just stupid. Also, bring back grenades, and make ammo ammo that can be changed through weapon changes, rather than a power.

Mass Effect 3: More dialogue options, which would be a good start. In order to get it to really work you'd need to alter parts of the story though, which I guess goes beyond the scope of this thread. One thing I really would have liked to see though; longer range combat. Most of it felt like a corridor shooter. We've got Sniper rifles. Give us a good reason to use them. And, as above, unique cooldowns on all abilities. And the ammo types complaint from above.

I'll also second the original Bioshock. Change its gameplay to the gameplay of 2 and you're good. Not perfect, but still pretty good.

The most recent Sim City. So much poor gameplay, a lot of which was caused by problems with their working agent system. People wouldn't go to the shop right across from their house, and would complain they couldn't buy anything. People would get stuck walking back and forth between work and home because they'd get fired, then run out of money, and just be a useless citizen that could do nothing. Revert it back to a more high level simulation. More detailed than previously, sure, check how close to all the amenities people are, and then check supply and demand on all those shops, calculate traffic routes and use that to estimate travel time - ect. Full low level simulation though just had too many problems thanks to stupid AI.
Also, less grind in some areas. If I have a stadium, I don't want to be sitting there every 5 minutes hitting "Run Performance" for maximum profit. Just automate the damn thing, like it was with Wonders and such. Most of the rest of it I didn't mind too much, though it was greatly simplified, and we did need better city building tools, but those were the big issues.
Also focus it around single player play rather than multiplayer "Region" play. Have that as an option, but the focus should have been on the single player.

I'll also throw in with the old KotOR games. Make them more like DA:O was, and it'd be good. The system for the old KotOR games though is just that bit too clunky.

Also, rework DA2s gameplay. It was just painful sometimes, and was a mess of poorly designed, pathetically balanced filler content. The story had its issues, though by and large I didn't mind too much. The gameplay though? Dear god fix that shit.

Any DS or 3DS game that relies on microphone gimmicks. Touch screen use is often quite intelligent and makes games better in some ways: See Boomarang or Bombchu usage in Phantom Hourglass.
Microphone though? Nope. Nope. Nope. Make anything that requires microphone control, also controlable purely with more reliable methods. Trying to get through Spirit tracks when your microphone is acting up is damn impossible. Just have the [R] and [L] buttons control blowing into the spirit pipes, with an option for using the microphone if you'd like. Would have made the game a lot more enjoyable. I'd also like to have motion controls in Ocarina of Time 3DS and Majora's Mask 3DS turned off by default. Quite often they got in the way of playing, rather than making it easier.

And there's probably more. Nowhere near an exhaustive list. But hey, at least its a start.

Metal Gear (NES). I once read that even Hideo Kojima felt disappointment with it. By today's standards it's extremely primitive, clunky and bare bones plot. However, underneath it is probably the greatest Metal Gear story that may never be properly told.

It has:
FOXHOUND
Solid Snake (player, obviously)
Big Boss (Snake's actual boss here)
Gray Fox (in the flesh)
Outer Heaven, the mercenary state Big Boss created
A massive villain fortress to explore (like the original MGS)
A Metal Gear
Solid Snake vs. Big Boss
Let me repeat that: Solid Snake fights Big Boss. Holy shit.

Either Kojima has never wanted to do it or Konami has the rights to it. I don't know. Either way, this would be the biggest thing since Metal Gear Solid 3, as long as they could get David Hayter.

That said, I see some arguably good games people want remade. Problem there is they wouldn't be as good as the originals.

Wow. Multiple people requesting Body Harvest. I'd be totally down for that. Friggin' loved that game back in the day.

Anywho... I'd like to see System Shock. I've always loved its sequel (one of my all-time favorite games, actually), but I was never able to get very far into the original because of its clunky gameplay.

Final Fantasy IX.

Speed it the fuck up. Nothing else needs to change but my god does the game run slow, too slow for it's time and way too slow for now.

Metal Gear Solid 2. Even if I can get past its awful combat mechanic, the thought of escorting Emma repels me from another playthrough.

I still haven't been able to get to the first save point, which is such a shame, because this video makes me want to play the rest of it so hard:

Seriously look at that vehicle variety! No wonder San Andreas had the reference to it...

What I would do for the first Deus Ex to have better enemy AI. Don't even need graphical improvements.

Shadow Madness from the PS1 days. I've often considered it one of my absolute favorite stories in video games, the setting and characters are all memorable, it's a really fun tale... the problem being is that the game is largely skipped over due to it's gameplay being (a rather bad) rip-off of PS1 Final Fantasy systems, the battle system is very bland, I didn't even feel a need to use half of my character's spells or abilities until the very final boss. The itemization is just ridiculous with tons of throwaway items that do nothing or might as well do nothing because they heal like 1 or 2 HP. Oh and the level cap is a measly 14!

As for the story, it has a setting in an odd steampunk/fantasy world that has amazing locations that start from rural backwoods farm communities, go on to huge modernistic cities, ancient castles, wild west towns, floating steampunk cities, unique desert temples, a land where you sail ships atop the canopy of trees in a thick forest, to a sprawling underworld full of mushroom forests and crystal mines.

The characters all given their own portraits and personality regardless of how minimal their bearing on the plot might be are all fun to interact with and you actually can enjoy the hours spent talking to people in towns and getting a feel for their concerns. The humor is also very welcome as it is often a wonderful mix of macabre and moody humor that borders on the dark side of things but manages to keep the whole thing feeling upbeat without compromising the depth of the story.

Finally, the music was great and I still get nostalgic tinges of longing whenever I hear it. It's a shame this game has faded into obscurity but it's gameplay kind of killed it when it released in an era known for great RPGs like FF7, Legend of Dragoon, and the like, it just doesn't feel up there, it needs a major facelift.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, excellent story, characters, dialogue, but some of the clunkiest combat encountered, especially in boss fights. It would definitely benefit from a better movement system overall, as well.

I would also love the Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights series done with Dragon Age: Origins engine and spell casting system. Having to prepare spells and them rest them back to availability never sat well with me.

The first Mass Effect would probably be better with it's combat brought into line with Mass Effect 2's. Mass Effect 2 and 3 both have good points to the combat, but 1's is fairly clunky.

The Getaway.

A British crime game on the PS2, decent music, decent voice acting and a good story. Was HUDless too ; teenager me was blown away at how 'fresh' the game felt.

Too bad the gameplay was alright at best. Especially the driving segments.

Mass Effect 1
Every time I feel like replaying the series I abandon that notion shortly after starting when I'm reminded of how much of slog it is.

VTM:B, although I think I would prefer a another WoD game to remake

Bioshock, there is nothing glaring wrong with it but I don't like it. You feel way too slow and thuggish. Ironically the second in which you play as a big daddy is much better in that regard.

Remember me could have been much better if they tweaked the gameplay. The bosses all feel the same (of the run at you and you dodge variety), the plat-forming was pointless since you are just following a path and I'm not sure I liked the build your own combo thing. Sounds good on paper but with only a few combos that you assign effects to yourself it go repetitive fast.

I wish the telltale games had more gameplay beyond walk and talk, I'm sure if they though about it they could work in some more puzzles that make sense but I suppose for some it being more of an interactive story with some exploration is a plus.

Virtua Quest... The concept was great, but the execution was bogged down by an inconsistent level-up system... Basically, update the use of making your own type of fighter using various upgrade tools and Virtua Souls, but either actually have the levels you obtain through XP actually matter or get rid of it and have the game dictate when you can go to the higher-level floors...

Other than that, Shadow The Hedgehog in terms of making sure you don't fail a particular mission by "accidentally" getting involved in another mission on the same, exact level... Glob, it was one of the reasons why I could not finish that game another 9 fucking times...

I would take Diablo and all the pure clones it spawned and give those games WASD movement + mouse aiming and also the option for dual stick controller support.
/thread.

Seriously though I would love that, but my vote goes to an old game called Millenia: Altered Destinies. Maybe I should even do it myself.

I want to see Blast Corps running on an engine like the one Red Faction Guerrilla uses. With some sort of gun that uses gravity so I can throw buildings at each other.

Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake from the MSX. Using MGSV's engine and assets. But sadly, I don't see that happening, ever. But hey, at least we'll have Metal Gear themed pachinko machines.

Totally agree on KOTOR and KOTOR2, but for my addition i'll say: Too Human. It was an interesting idea and I really liked their version of cyberspace. The game play fell apart though if you were doing anything other than a ranged class. Who thought using the right stick to attack was a good idea? Most of the time you'd end up attacking things off screen. It was too painful to play. Cool story though. It also could have used more enemy variety.
