What Happened to G4

G4 television was one of my favorite channels. It had my shows and was my source of video game knowledge before the Escapist. But a while ago, the channel just disappeared. I went to my TV guide channel and it's not there anymore. So what happened?

Most of the programming as far as I could tell watching it a while back was watered down goop with the occasional touch of actually relevant gaming media. Then they introduced the "hot" chicks and spiketv style crap and I'd say, if it's not there anymore, that's probably why it's not.

X-play used to be where I went for gaming reviews and such, and now Morgan Webb just makes unfunny joke after unfunny joke.

He's not asking why G4 has become worse, he's literally saying he can't find it on his TV Guide.

And wiki doesn't say G4 has stopped broadcasting. So it must be something with your services.

Welcome to cable television. Channels get moved around, removed, or put in a shared timeslot with other channels all the time, though I'm surprised that would happen to G4. It used to happen all the time to techTV (g4 before it sucked). TechTV used to share a timeslot with VH1 on my cable for a number of years.

As for what people have said about the quality of G4, spot on. It's become the teenage wannane tech-hipster channel with the occasional spot of television show for the mentally impaired (cops/cheaters/outrageous behavior caught on tape).

Insight moved G4TV from their basic cable service to premium.

Regarding the change in programming on G4TV, I will only say that they're now run by the same people that run E!, and if you haven't seen what passes for shows there, you're lucky.

Well, the channel still exists on Time Warner, but it's not G4. It's just a bastardization of what they think is "geeky, alternative television" when really it's just a marathon of Cops and Cheaters spaced out by Attack of the Show, X-Play, and the occasional convention coverage.

I wish it'd go back to the old days. Where it was all geek and video game stuff all the time. Like the show Portal, Icons, Arena and The Electric Playground.

Or atleast broadcast like, more competitive gaming. I'd watch.

I know they switched channels for Direct TV to 310, thats all i know, but I don't trust their reveiws anymore. They just try to hype things up that should be hyped. They give biased reveiws and really don't seems to be the same as they were a few years ago. I guess it's something in their contract or something but they never seem to pull out a games flaws and mostly try to water down the big problems with the game like saying the conrols are bad but it looks so good you'll forget about it anyway.

I know, those were the good days, sometimes they put on old shows at like 9 in the morning during the summer, they atleast did tha last year.

Yeah I wouldn't complain about G4 being gone and I definitely would not pay for it as a premium channel that is just crazy seriously I would say it has become Spike TV 2 but lately Spike TV has had better game coverage then G4. I miss TechTVG4 Days Screen Savers with Leo Laporte, Kevin Rose, and the like. Arena was always fun to watch. There was always something decent to watch on it. What has happened to what used to be my favorite channel.
