What happened to splitscreen in Far Cry 2?

I was playing Far Cry 2 this weekend with some of my buddies and we were going to play some multi-player. When we realized there was no splitscreen, we were sorely disappointed. The original Far Cry had great splitsrceen multi-player. Why would they drop it in the second one. I know that developers think that gamers have no actual friends who they can play with at home, but this seems like a dick move on their part.

This is something I've complained about in the past in other games. I really can't explain it. I was seriously considering buying this game, but now I guess I can keep my $60.

I'm glad I could help.

Yeah, there are a few things I don't understand why developers don't do it more often. Split screen being one of them.
Also:
Co-op (Although there has been an influx of this recently! WOO!)
Bots (Also slightly changing recently, what with Gears 2 and the Horde mode, and LFD in general)
And split screen over Xbox LIVE (I'm not a big Halo fan at all, but that is one thing the series did right for sure.)

I never thought I'd say this...but Halo 3 is still an essential multiplayer game BECAUSE of the split-screen.

well imo games are pushing the consoles to the max now so rendering multiple screens is more than they can handle.

and far cry2 compared to halo3, farcry has alot of polygons to render ie: thick grass and trees while halo is pretty open.

Not always true, look at CoD4 for instance. While I like playing online, my wife and I usually just enjoy playing against each other. The lack of split-screen in most games is a complete waste IMO. While I'm glad that a lot of games nowadays are turning to having co-op, I still think that just having split-screen is a major game seller for me.

Developers are pushing the online multiplayer as the paradigm at the cost of local multiplayer. That, and they assume none of us gamers have a social life apparently -.-

Better question yet, what happened to Far Cry 2? I know all game devs promise things they'll never deliver on, but this is a pretty bad case of developer pre-release lies. Even worse, there is no SDK for us PC people to mod Far Cry 2 with. Pretty much Far Cry 2 amounts to GTA after a few hours of play. Its first person and has slight differences, but the whole layout reeks heavily of Grand Theft Auto. Then they remvoed something I was looking foward to from single player, the field surgery, and replaced it with a stupid needle. Then they added an HUD which is almost always there in combat. Then they made every on of your guns suck and all the enimies ones own. The only way to own in this game is to take a sniper rifle, but since I hate sniping, I just run over people with the cars. Far Cry 2 is good, don't get me wrong, but they totally didn't deliver what they promised. Also, the flame-thower sucks, which is also too bad.
