I don't really listen to music much when I'm playing games.

Sometimes, if I'm playing online, I'll throw on some Fleetwood Mac because it's the only music I ever bothered putting on my XBox. :D

I really appreciate a good game soundtrack, and I count one as a major point in a game's favour. Even if it's not great it just feels wrong to play a game without the sound.

I do sometimes have the radio on in the background though, especially if I'm grinding in WoW or something. Not music though - news, documentaries, that sort of thing. And I keep the game's sound on, albeit with the volume turned down.

I usually just listen to the game soundtrack. I mean, in my experience if the soundtrack is awful so is the rest of the game, 99% of the time. I do typically listen to music when I read comic books though, in which case what I listen to varies depending on the type of story I'm reading. Tending towards rock, metal or ska.

Really depends. I'm into hipster douche bag stuff at the mo but I like mainstream, I'm into fallout boy but only because I liked them as a pre-teen. It depends on the game as well, stuff with constant story-telling and dialogue I generally just don't listen to anything but if it's something brainless/shoot-em-up/played before so many times then I'll just have my itunes on which is just the biggest mix of the most random bullshit.

If I'm not listening to the game's soundtrack I'm listening to a podcast, lets play or something similar. I don't often listen to music while gaming...not anymore anyway. Back a couple of generations ago I put a bunch of CDs onto my XBox and listened to metal and J-Rock while playing Halo, SSX, Burnout, THUG, etc...it was a good time.

Ive been playing GTA 5 of late which has an incredible soundtrack and such and by listening to your own music you are taking away one of the things that makes this game so alive. Listening to all the little noises it really makes the game feel alive

Im also playing gran turismo 6 where I need 100% conxentration. Music is a distraction. The only noise I need is the noise of revving engines and tire smoke and my own swearing as I miss out on winning a race by 1 microsecond

Depends, if I want something upbeat to get me going, probably Rush.

If I am playing Dark Souls or something like it, ill likely choose Bad Religion.

I listen to the game's soundtrack. And if it doesn't have a soundtrack then I listen to the ambient sounds. And if it doesn't have ambient sounds, I'm playing a text adventure and I find that listening to music whilst reading breaks my immersion, because I have to stop and put something mood-appropriate on.

I always listen to the game's soundtrack, unless it's a multiplayer shooter, and usually I'll just play whatever I've been listening to recently. I remember having a very positive experience playing Halo 4 to Disasterpiece's "Level" album, though.

I actually feel a bit guilty when I drown out the music of a game and play my music isntead. Seems to me I am messing with the way the game was meant to be played (yes, I'm weird, aren't we all). Guess that would make me a bad streamer since I don't make everbody listen to Dubstep while playing (which I don't listen to anyway).

I do listen to a lot of baroque music when I play games which pump my adrenaline too high (like LoL in general or Hearthstone ranked games) to get myself a bit more relaxed and it works. When I am not playing I listen to a lot of other stuff but I don't need Industrial Electro while I am already quite agitated ;)

It depends on the game! Recently, I've been getting into Warframe, and have been complementing it with a bit of dubstep.

When I was playing Skyrim, I would generally have no music playing, and that included turning the game music off. Found sneaking around frustrating if I couldn't hear what was going on. Occasionally I'd load up a podcast (Dismal Jesters, usually) if I was travelling about the world and needed to stop myself getting bored.

And when I was going through another playthrough of Persona 4 Golden, I was mostly listening to rock.

If I'm playing RPGs, it's either Nightwish, Florence & The Machine, or Loreena Mckennitt. They all have this medieval, and especially in the case of Mckennitt, folksy sound that drops me right into the world I'm seeing. If I'm in a very story heavy section of game though, I stick to the game with no background noise, as to not block out what the characters are saying.

When I'm playing an online shooter I tend to listen to a dubstep mix or something with an 80s feel a-la Hotline Miami. Gets me pumped and excited and makes the experience all the more fun. Anything else, however, I'll listen to the OST.

Assuming I'm not listening to the game's soundtrack, and the game doesn't require a large amount of attention (for story or reflexes), I actually listen to people talking instead. Podcasts, Let's Plays, video reviews...

Hell, for the past week or so, I've been systematically listening to old Rap Critic reviews and Zero Punctuation episodes while playing Dungeons of Dredmor. And that's when I haven't just set my Youtube favorites on auto-play and fired them up.

The video game's soundtrack... It's more of a given, though...

Other than that... any song used in an Adult Swim bump seems to be played a lot if I have the game's sound on mute...

Just the game's soundtrack, really. I actually hum it to myself sometimes, if it's really good. And it works well, too, say, whenever "Ride Forth Victoriously" pops up in my EU4 games, I go "Lithuania, c'mere! You're getting annexed!"
