What media player do you use?

Microsoft's regular media player.

It does what it's told and runs far more effiently and takes a lot less resources than Itunes, not to mention it came preinstalled on my PC so no real reason to switch to anything.

I use VLC player [http://www.downloadvlcplayer.net] too since it can be used on Linux or Windows. There are also lots of mods out there as well to suit your distribution.

windows media player if i want to watch stuff on my xbox in another room over the media centre function, tversity is ok but if there are multiple people sharing on the network it gets to be a lot of hassle

vlc, bs.player and gomplayer. bs & gom has irq sharing issues with my network driver though, so mostly vlc.

Right now, being on Ubuntu, I mainly use Totem for video and Rhythmbox for audio. They'll play pretty much anything out there. Though when I used Windows I really liked GOMPlayer. Found it to even be better than VLC, IMO. I just couldn't get VLC to work exactly right in Windows for some reason.

iTunes for music, media player classic for video. I'm looking into an alternative for music right now though. I like the organizational options for iTunes but every operation takes it way too long to process at this point.

Winamp for music and Media Player Classic for videos. VLC seems to be the media player of choice, but I never found it to be that spectacular.

I use WMP for music because it´s the only one so far that I have found that my G15 keyboard got support for, animes/videos etc. I use VLC because.... well there isn't anything I would say is better then VLC so that´s why.

iTunes for my Music, VLC for my Video, what it lacks in sleekness it gains in its simplicity.

For music? iTunes. I hate it, but most of my non-ripped music is from the iTunes store and I use it to sync my podcasts and iPod.

For video it's MPC or VLC depending on the file type.

I just switched from MPC to VLC for video. VLC has gotten tons better since I last used it a couple of years ago. Zune player for audio, since I have a Zune and it's just convenient.

I'm using an older version of foobar2000 for music.

Why foobar:
- focussed on functionality rather than eye candy and skins that look out of place in my OS.
- isn't just a player, but more a general music organizer and toolkit
- very customizable to own needs (i for example turned it into a star trek music player: I can tell it which music characteristics i want and how relaxed/intense it should be, and it will give me a list of results).

I dislike the direction foobar development took at a certain point.


As for videos: Currently i'm using SMPlayer. Older version here too, because the build i use until now is the only one that works with most videos. For newer builds, there always were some vids that didn't work.

I use WMP for music because it doesn't touch my music and it finds it easily when I dump it.
I also use DivX for movies. And quicktime when something doesn't work on the other two as a last resort.

Good ol Windows Media Player for music and anything SD.
The moment it's something with optional subtitles, or something HD, I use VLC.
