It's beautiful music to my ears! I used to think it was awesome, it got me excited thinking, "Fuck yes, my internet is working and connecting"

OP- Ahh, I remember those personal website's people used to do. I used to frequently visit one, his name was Chris or something, because there was loads of ASCII Art on it.

I also remember when Rotten.com was the most sickest place you got go on the net and when those pictures actually made you shocked

When Newgrounds was really awesome, I remember lots of Porn pop ups, too, even just by going on to an innocent site.

I remember trying to download things like Music with Dial-up. So.Painfully.Slow.

I remember having a Hotmail and MSN back in 1999, my older Brother got them for me because he was studying computer stuff in college. It was so basic and the emotion icons where so cute and simple, infact, I think it was before the icons and stuff *le sigh* Sadly I had to change E-mails in 2004.

EDIT: Ohhh, remember the Turtle that was always in school, you used to have to type in commands and he'd end up drawing crazy shit like a square or even a god damn hexagon?!

I remember the ungodly amount of AOL discs for your free 7 day trial of the internet they were everywhere...and I think there was even a news spot on the amount of them piling up in landfills
For a while, they were an excellent craft material. You could glue a bunch of them together to make a coaster, and my sister used them as wheels for a carriage for one of those diorama projects.

But yeah, the things were everywhere, and LONG after everyone had reliable internet with better companies.

I think they still send them, the poor saps. :p

Geocities, phone-bills, waiting 10 minutes for a Stickdeath video to load.. Those were emphatically not the days.

I didn't realise just how much I missed that noise until I listened to that video...three times. Oh the days of finding crappy Lego flash games to play and go2outer.net. I sort of miss them.

Ah GeoCities...how you used to annoy me.
Oh god. Comic Sans, everywhere. It burns! And the background, WHY!?

And is that...HTML formatting that's visible on the page itself!?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I remember that I used to wait for 2-3 or more hours just to download a Red vs Blue episode (it was 5-6 hours to download that 10 mins episode)!

But yeah I remember that connection noise, the ugly HTML pages, popup blocker was not invented yet (all of my hates toward the pop up ads) and such things called geocities.

I spent hours on Anime Web Turnpike back then.

I spent enough time trying to get my hands on games and songs through a connection, I couldn't even imagine people getting movies on it.

I remembered seeing a commercial on TV about not pirating movies and how it's wrong and thinking "yeah right, on internet speeds? Like that'll ever become popular."

I remember that dial up tone, and my older sisters having incredibly long phone conversations which meant I had to get off the computer, but when I wanted to take a minute to call my friend to see if he wanted to play, I had to wait "five minutes" (half an hour) for them to finish up. I remember neopets, and not being great at it. I remember the rampant porn pop ups. I was browsing the god damn pokemon website when *BAM* naked laaaaadeeeehs! I was a very confused young'un after I saw that. I wondered what relevance it had to my beloved cartoon and game series.

Ah, Red vs. Blue. Fortunately, by the time I discovered that, the internet no longer blocked phone use and vice versa...

There were no bronies and far less white supremacist websites. They were better times.

But by Sagan, dialup. All my hate.

Man I think I got the internet in like 99 or 00. So I was only 8 or 9 years old. My earliest memories of it were going in Wikipedia for school projects in grade 6. And 2 years latter when I played my 1st MMO Runescape. And my 1st trip around that time to for women. Which if what people are saying that there was a much higher % or porn sites, I was really bad at finding them lol.

Man the internet was so terrible back than, slow, unpredictable. in the very early days I had it very loud. Why did they give dial-up modems the ability to make sounds, worst idea ever in my books.

I don't remember the internet in the nineties. I only remember it loading and then me giving up and going off to do something else.

...I miss that noise. I love it like a stuffed animal.

I want to use it on my phone for everything

As a genuine oldfag of the highest order, I proclaim everything better in my day and all you young bucks with your 4chan and youtube can stuff it

I'll just watch HORRIFYING FLASH VIDEOS of frog men murdering people and pooping down their necks.

no one who lived through the flash era should be shocked by anything YNC can put up

I don't actually hate that dial-up sound.
I don't know why, really... Guess it's almost kind of nostalgic.

I remember not being alowed to go online by my parents because you had to pay per second (or minute?). Oh and that you were never under any circumstance were allowed to share anything about yourself online, not even what country you are from because all of the internets were supposed to be crazy folk ^^
