I was a weird kid.

I still kind of like it.

Do you remember the first album you bought? What special significance does it hold for you? What fond memories do you have of it?

For me it was Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance. I was about ready to turn 13 when the album came out. I was in middle school at the time and I remember seeing the music video for I'm Not Okay on Fuse. I begged my mom to take me to the record store so I could buy it. I would always jam that album when playing Tony Hawk's Underground. I had other albums on my Xbox. But for some reason, I would just listen to that on repeat.
[Horray for Boobies] - Bloodhound Gang
Simply for one song; Mope.

It's the first time I thought about a particular song and wanting to hear it again. But this, I hadn't really considered watching music videos or listening to the radio other than if it had to be on. I started listening to MuchMusic top 30 afterwards and getting to learn a lot of popular bands in the 90's but I missed out on a lot of bands a lot of people seemed to like.
The CD has a bunch of shitty music on it with a few (maybe 3) good songs. The more popular song being "The Bad Touch" where they run around town in shitty monkey outfits. I don't even think they have a 2nd CD but I have noticed seeing them on Viva La Bam (Featuring Bam and the late Ryan Dunn of Jackass).

I had also a similar infatuation to the song [Blue] from Eiffel 65. (Da boo de da di dah)
Generally, I find most music to be alright. I'm not hung-up on bands. I wouldn't care to see anyone live.

As a kid, I bought Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine on cassette because it had an odd cover and I had no real clue about music. I'm glad I did since NIN is one of my favorite bands of all time. It was followed by a lot of grunge and metal and when Downward Spiral came out I waited for weeks for our crappy K-Mart to get it in. And I've not been disappointed with a NIN album either.

James Blunt's All The Lost Souls which I still jam to all these years later. It stands in stark contrast to the rest of my musical library (which is mostly filled with hip-hop) but I don't care it's still the best thing.

Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I bought that one when I was 19 or 20. (I'm 21 now) And I think that will be the last album I'll ever feel the need to buy again. Everything else I just get online or elsewhere.

Running with scissors by Weird Al when I was like 12 or 13. The first non-comedic album I bought was Who's next by The Who when I was 15 and starting to care about music.

I don't know if it was the first one I bought, but the first one I have a clear memory of buying was "Americana" by The Offspring.

Of course I remember the first album I ever bought. It was the only physical cd I ever bought, Finger Eleven's Them vs. You vs. Me Back when their song Paralyzer was on the radio every other track. Those were some good times. I still have all the tracks on my computer. infact, it's time for a nostalgic playlist

Being the cultivated intellectual that I am, I picked up the triumvirate of Nespithe, Zeit and Trout Mask Replica at the tender age of 3, all of which I discovered on my own without the internet of course. *dons hipster shades* Really though, I can't remember the first album I got as a gift but it was probably something shit like the Vengaboys album because come on, nobody who's being honest with themselves has good taste when they're 5/6 unless they have a cool older sibling or something. First album I can remember buying with my own money was most likely Ascendancy by Trivium when I was about 13 and as much as the following words would destroy my credibility if said around Metal Archives and the like I think it still holds up pretty well and I'll un-apologetically say that the solo on Like Light to the Flies is fucking awesome (3:16-4:20):

I think the first album I got (that was mine) was Nordman's Ingenmandsland at age 5 or 6. The first album I bought with my own money was probably one of the Greatest Hits-type albums by Europe. The first album I bought for myself that had a profound effect on the type of person I am was God Hates Us All by Slayer.
