A box of dirt. No windows or doors or anything.
Pretty much this.

It was a snow world in alpha and I had just gathered a bunch of dirt and built it up into a castle with no roof. Finally I got underground and started mining some cobble and built a second floor out of that. I then scrapped that world and moved onto others.

A hole. I'm sure i'm not alone in this. It's quick...takes no time...and when you didn't know what the hell you were doing, about all you could handle.

Look straight down, dig frantically as the moon comes up, place a block above you, and pray to god there are no spiders...

A wood/dirt box a little bit off shore, connected via sand pathway to the beach.

Built an awesome tower made of lava and glass on that file later.

That is a very interesting original post.

Mine was a sort of hallway in a cliff-face with a scared cuboid man inside it.

One block of dirt... then I never played it again.

Sorry to be the hater here, but the game just didn't grip me although I CAN in fact understand and appreciate what it brings to the table.

Though to be fair I haven't liked a whole lot of games since about 2003 and I sadden myself with that fact.

A 1x1xsome tower made from dirt. I lived happily up there for all of half a minute then a skeleton shot me off and murdered me. I thought he was an undead cowboy at first and I didn't think it was fair that zombies could have guns.

I dug a small cave in the mountains. I later expanded the cave until the entire mountain range was my fortress. I deleted the save file after it got corrupted though.

Hole in a cave. Later I made a door. Even later, I added some chests and tools, plus a second floor and some windows. Then a farm.

Then I went and made Rapture. Jarring change of scale, that.

A rampart made of wooden planks. I didn't know about spiders climbing walls so I thought an open roof was safe... and I didn't even know how to make anything besides planks at the time.

An underground area at the mouth of a short cave. Large, but short. That one never really expanded much after I moved out to my other house, closer to where I was clearing land for my giant stone fortress, which is now my (possibly) final home.

Dug straight into a mountain side, still located there today (well i still have the original world with my stuff, don't use it any more)
Built on it (or demolished depending which way you look at it) and ended up with two mineshafts, and a farm at the back.

A very small (possibly 4x4) dirt block with no roof. Or bed. Now however, on a different world, I have a rather nice and cosy wooden house with a vaulted roof and torches on it. Win. ^^

A small wooden shack. Which I preceded to accidentally blow up with TNT. I then rebuilt it with a wooden interior and cobblestone exterior.
I eventually expanded to make a pond on the roof and a few trees.

That was many, many worlds ago.

Pretty much a small hole on a cliff side. I remember expanding it in the night... I used the same tactic for a long time after, they generally became my first mine shafts.

It was a series of tunnels on a mountain, with holes I could look out from. It was back when Minecraft was free and there was no night, so the monsters were always after you.
