offtopic: Come to think of, I've always wondered about lesbians. If they don't like men, how come most of real-life lesbians I've known/seen look androgynous? Many cut their hair short, mostly wear guyish clothes (I don't think I remember any of them wearing skirts), have slightly swaggering walks, stuff like that. One would presume girls liking girls would want to look as girlish as possible...

For them wearing more traditionally masculine clothing is not related to wanting to relate to men but just as a way of self-expression, without having to worry about conforming to what is stereotypically considered female. Similarly you can find straight men who just enjoy wearing more feminine clothing or makeup.

Sexuality is a sliding scale, you have gay men who are really manly (bears for example) gay men who are more feminine you have straight guys who are into more masculine women and straight women who are into feminine guys (lots of these actually like the whole metro sexual thing) by the same token you have lesbians who like butch women and lesbians who like really feminine women, however to various media and popular opinion the butch lesbian is more shocking and thus gets more attention.

IN MY OWN LIMITED PERSPECTIVE I BELIEVE: that women are just as sexually rainbowed in the same way men are. Men are just culturally more allowed to be a real asshole about their pre-conceived preferences and more open about their disgusting fetishes. Women on the other hand are culturally repressed in this regard and are essentially forced to seek sanctuary in erotica that is typically much more creative or in depth as disguise. This also works both ways, its just more common for women from what I have seen.

Also given that women tend to be absolutely plagued with requests for sexual relations at any given moment they retroactively ascribe to higher standards in an attempt to avoid being dog-piled on, not because they wish to hurt people's feelings, just to maintain their own well being. This also falls in line with how men retroactively feel entitled to sexual relations with a woman for the sheer fact she is a woman (rape culture, etc.)
