So, kind of a specific question what genre would you classify marvel vs. capcom 2's opening and character select music as?

I ask because a roommate and myself were having trouble defining it. We eventually settled on a disco, swing, funk and big band fusion. What do you think?

Most likely swing and funk, so it could technically count as a fusion. If we want to get technical, it could also count as disco as both swing and funk contributed to the groundwork of the genre.

Some form of Disco Funk perhaps?

Why do I like it?

Title Screen seems oddly Jazz-Funk-ish

That's it! Exactly!
It's close to bebop but I wouldn't call it exactly bebop. A lot of bebop is more jazzlike, but we do have the brass sections accounted for. Also it doesn't really have the walking basslines that bebop is known for. This is my understanding anyways, I'm not an expert at all!

Hence why I said it was Exactly Bebop-ish

Exactly sorta, yes?

yeah :)
So if we have the bebop brass sections, are we going to assume the rhythm is jazz/swing influenced?

Terrible?
For some reason I kind of like it. I don't really know why. I'll grant it's about as cheesy as you could possibly make music, but there's just something about it.

Besides awesome and fresh?

Being a musician it's definitely considered what we call "acid jazz" which is a mixture of jazz, fusion and hip-hop.

Classify it as damn annoying but I just can't see the game without it. Makes me wish my copy of the game for the PS2 was still working, God that game never got old.
If you have a current console, it's available on both PSN and XBL.

I feel like I should have known that for some reason! I think this is the most definite category we could put it under.
Thanks :D

No problem! I'm just glad to see someone other than me and my musician-nerd friends appreciates what they did with the soundtrack to that game.

Awesomely bizarre.

Edit: In seriousness...Miscellaneous since it really takes pieces of a lot of genres to make an interesting mix.

haha, I'm a bit of a music nerd, just not really in this genre. Though close, I'm really into electronic stuff, and Acid Jazz is half related. Taking a step back though, I listen to some really weird shit some people wouldn't even consider music. Experimental Braindance for instance.
