He guys... so I'm thinking of picking up another turn based RPG for my little Nintendo console since that's what I prefer to play on the go... something turnbased and very grindy.

I remember reading about this game where the characters die and instead of it being a game over the story simply continued without them.... I want to say it's a Fire Emblem game but I'm not sure. Any help?

Well Fire Emblem as a series is notorious for exactly that. Although that's now optional in Fire Emblem Awakening, so if that's what you want, make sure to play with the permadeath option turned on.

Fire Emblem awakening is the only game I know on the 3ds that has that, but only if you play on classic. Also Fire Emblem is an absolute must buy. If you have a 3ds, you better get this. It is my personal GOTY.

Fire Emblem is the only game that I can think of that meets those requirements. I'm positive that it is Fire Emblem you're thinking off.

Can I ask, how does it stack up compared to Final Fantasy 9? Because that RPG is my all time favorite.

I've never played an FF game, so I can't really answer that.

Fire Emblem is a strategy-RPG, so it's a fairly different sort of beast compared to Final Fantasy, and in my experience a fair bit more challenging. I would look up some gameplay to see for yourself. It's sort of like RPG chess, in a way.

think FF tactics not 9, and the game is great play however you want(personally I think its best to play once through on classic then the second on casual to see all the relationships)

I bet it's Fire E-

Oh.

Well, looks like everything is in order...carry on.

EDIT: If it's anything like the ones I've played, it's tile-based, turn-based, character-oriented, has a few RPS systems going as far as combat, and yep, permadeath.

Well if you're looking for something that you can half pay attention to, then I highly advise playing on casual mode as permadeath will make it rather difficult to just play mindlessly, even during grinding(your flying units can pretty much always be OHKO'ed by pretty much any and all archers for example). Casual mode only removes permadeath(and allows mid battle saving iirc), but it doesn't affect the enemy units or anything though, so they will still be just as powerful as in classic mode, so it'll save you a lot of resetting because you accidentally let a unit die by mistake or from other tiny slip ups like that.

You and me must whave been playing a different game, or you didn't use reeking boxes, because I just send in my people and let everyone attack them and die. Though I played on normal so that also might be a reason.

Shin Megami Tensei games are perfect for that sorta thing. SMT IV, Strange Journey and Devil Survivor 1 and 2 are available on 3/DS

I'm not sure what you mean. What do you mean by et everyone attack them and die? As in, you let your units attack and get killed afterwards? All I was saying is that if you play on Classic mode, then your units will die permanently if killed in battle and you will need to reset to get them back, whereas this does not happen in casual. There's also the difficultly levels in addition to classic/casual modes if you want more challenge, so you can play normal/classic mode or hard/casual or easy/casual...etc

I meant that I would just put My units into the middle of the enemy and watched as the enemy threw themselves at my guys and the enemies would do very little to no damage and just be mass murdering machines. Kind of made me wish I had chosen hard at the beginning. I was playing in classic normal.
