OMG I've heard this topic seriously more than 100 times.....Your playing a game where all you do is kill each other......I think hostility is implied

Welcome to the Internet. Those with thin skins do not last long.
"thick skins" is an undrstatement. "Skins the strength of a Rhino King's hide" would be nearer the mark.
What??? Seriously what???? If you are going to get all offended by some random strange talking crap then you should ask your mommy to disconnect your internet and hide under your bed for the rest of your life. It is going to happen online. It is going to happen outside. It is going to happen wherever you have contact with other human beings.

I cannot believe that people give random strangers this kind of power over their lives. It is just sad. Newsflash not everyone is going to be your friend. Not everyone is going to like you. Not everyone is going to give you a chance to let them know you. If they aren't what you call a friend then it shouldn't matter what anyone says to or about you (or in this case your country). This is why they have things like a mute function in the first place.
No offence, but looking at your response I just can't help but think you might be somewhat lacking in self-awareness.

But in all seriousness, thank you very much for making a series of assumptions about me based on a random flippant comment I made regarding the amount of trash talk that goes on on Xbox Live. If this sets you off then I'd love to see how much you can pour out on a topic that's actually worthwhile.
Wow take things personally much? This isn't just for you. It is for everyone who makes these ridiculous threads on a daily basis. Trash talking exists everywhere. It isn't just confined to XBL or the internet. And TBH it isn't the trash talking that set me off. It is this PC crap that has turned everyone into a bunch of crybabies that has. And that is a topic that is worthwhile. I shudder at the thought of living in a future where everybody is sniveling little boys and girls clutching to their mommies teet because some big bad stranger might say something mean to them.
1. Well, you did address me directly... and then went on to use vague language which included me in it. you also said "this isn't just for you". Oh, right, well now that I know we're all sharing the lesson today then I guess I can rest a little easier, like it alleviates some of the impact, right?

2. You know that your wording, at least, gives you the air of someone who has adopted an equally emotional position? the original poster wonders why people on XBL are so hostile, you come back with an extraordinarily hostile rant about how people should stop worrying about hostility.
To go into finer detail, you attribute the "PC crap that has turned everyone into a bunch of crybabies" to being the cause of.... well, everyone turning into a bunch of crybabies (really? have they? have they? HAVE THEY? CAN YOU HONESTLY BACK THAT UP? NO? OK THEN). Is that how you choose to refer to people who earnestly wonder "why can't we just get along more politely?"? with a statement that manages to offend everyone while simultaneously being confusingly vague? what "PC crap" are you referring to, and what "topic" is it that you believe is worthwhile?

Then, some outright kneejerk insanity...

"I shudder at the thought of living in a future where everybody is sniveling little boys and girls clutching to their mommies teet because some big bad stranger might say something mean to them"

oh, right, so that's what we want, is it? if I complain about a foulmouthed kid on the internet, I'm just some pathetic weak-willed milquetoast-in-waiting rather than someone who just wishes these things could be cleared up with a bit of common courtesy?

I struggle to understand what on earth gave you the impression that this imaginary future of yours was any closer to reality because a lot of us don't like being sweared at, but apparently if we take a few seconds of our day to say "those people should stop being dicks" then the ubermensch within us dies inside and we become helpeless innocent sheep.

Why is it that in your comments, you seemed to act as though those of us who find this objectionable have spent our entire lives wrapped in a ball of cotton wool living on fucking dream juice? hey, we have lives as well, and just because you're sitting there adopting the position of hardened veteran of real non-virtual life that doesn't mean you don't have to validate your position and explain your goddamned comments, or at least why you saw fit to hurl insults at everyone who you've dragged into this stereotype which you have just whipped out of thin air to rant at.

Actually, yes! let's talk about people who are easily offended! let's talk about the poster who took issue with a jokey (although yeah, unfunny) comment regarding the sheer morbid foulmouthery of the internet, and decided that instead of construing this comment for what it was, instead - saw it as an out-and-out confession of pathetic mental frailty and a nervous disposition regarding anonymous internet-folk out there, and chose to imagine that this individual fell into their own personal vendetta against people who not only...

(A) Never did anything to harm him, but
(B) DON'T ACTUALLY EXIST.

How's THAT for easily offended?

TL:DR, what the fuck are you talking about?!
Nope sorry but you completely got it all wrong. I am not saying they should be dicks (and in a perfect world there wouldn't be dicks). But since this isn't a perfect world guess what people are gonna be dicks. What pisses me off is people giving the dicks power. If you get all butthurt and feel the need to cry about it to what 100's or thousands of people you are letting the dicks win. If it bothers you so much that you have to either pause your game or stop playing it to come on a forum and make a post crying about what some random stranger said to offend you you are giving the dicks power. Do you think that only non dicks read these posts? Do you believe for 1 second that some jackass is not going to read this post and think "hey I should use that the next time I wanna be a dick online? Look at the reaction it got from this wussie."

We will never all get along until we live in a perfect world. So we gotta make the best of the world we got. There is tools in place to combat dickery online. If people suck it up and use them they take away the power of the dicks. Afterall if a dick makes a noise and there is no one there to hear it does it make a noise? The answer is NO! When people don't they enable them and you know what??? THAT DOESN'T HELP!!!!

WE ALL KNOW THIS.
1. If we all know this then why happening every day with a new "waaaah someone said this to me while playing this game" post? Are we supposed to be surprised? Is it supposed to be a shocking revalation? If not then what purpose do posts like this serve other than to people ***** about people being dicks? Does this not give the dicks the exact reaction they are looking for? I mean clearly it upset him/her. 1 point for the dick. And guess what? THE DICKS ARE WINNING. Why? Because they are just like trolls and people keep on feeding them instead of letting them starve. If we aren't feeding them on one format we are feeding them on another. You want to get rid of them? You want a perfect world free of dicks? Don't acknowledge their dickish behaviour. PERIOD!

2. How do you know what Malikaw did? how do you know if he/she paused or stopped the game to make this post?

There's your problem right there. Playing Call of Duty on Xbox live. Not to poke at the game, but it always attracts a lot of people (smart, stupid, polite, and aggressive) and usually the most ignorant and loud mouthed get heard. As for the whole America vs Brittain thing I have no idea.

They do.

YOU don't.

Plus even if Microsoft did police their network, do you -really- think that would stop them? Check out http://www.whywasibanned.com/ People break the rules all the time, and will continue to do so by spamming obscenities over the mic.

Just how it rolls.

I was gonna say: it's not because it's Xbox Live ... it's because it's CoD. Halo is like that too (IMXP).

Oddly, I found the online Gears of War community quite friendly in comparison ... but mebbe I'm just lucky that way o_o

This is my problem with Zero Tolerance enforcement.

IT CLEARLY DOES NOT WORK!

Microsoft even with banning so many people (and refusing to reimburse them) the foul and abusive language is still rife and getting worse.

There are several obvious problems:
PROBLEM: The "rules" of conduct in the ToS are hidden amongst a metric shit-ton of legal terms about utterly irrelevant stuff like covering copyrights and licensed technology. People do not read these rules, it is ridiculous to expect them to
SOLUTION: clearly have a separate "Commandments" document that is easy to read, easy to understand that the player must follow these rules. Have them "sign" at the bottom with their thumb-stick (just an X) and have it a rules document that they can view and re-read at any time from the home-row. Clicking on the document can give "test cases"
PREJUDICE: Microsoft want to give the illusion they are easy going and libertarian, that's why they hide the code of conduct in an obscure legal document like ToS that THEY ABSOLUTELY KNOW that most people do not read this.

-

PROBLEM: Zero-Tolerance does not work, it is too harsh and too inflexible to treat someone who says "wanker" the same as someone who makes explicit sexual and racial threats. This is a nonsense system that people cannot understand or respect, it is arbitrary and inconsistent.
SOLUTION: They need a layered defence of punishments. With warnings, suspensions, probations, and even gagging restrictions (can't talk or text in game, nor email non-friends) for persistent offenders. Give them time to cool off, think about what they have done and with a probation period for a chance to repent.
PREJUDICE: Microsoft likes the zero tolerance policy as they know full well banned individuals will up and buy another membership. It's an utterly corrupt system.

-

PROBLEM: Microsoft actively encourages trash talk via their developers, Cliffy B has frequently said it is "part of the game" and in fact of all the events not only does Microsoft refuse to acknowledge how bad the situation is but refuse to stay anything against it.
SOLUTION: Tell Cliffy B to shut his big mouth and if he does feel compelled to run his mouth then he should encourage good gamesmanship online: i.e. don't gloat like a asinine 13 year old every win, don't have a swear laced tantrum every loss. trash talk is not "part of the game" not when so many people think that extends to disrespecting the 9/11 dead and stirring racial and xenophobic tension.
PREJUDICE: Microsoft knows that the idea of trash talk is a selling point for their games and system, though once people get into it most find the verbal abuse a complete detriment. Microsoft are too openly committed to this lie.

Well, think who the people are that play on XBL. There's the mature adults that make up about 30-35% of the population. There's the older people who just bought it for their kids, but want to take it for a spin that make up around 5%. Then there's the 10 year old from around the world that make up the other 60-65%. Normally, at that age you're just looking for a fight, whether it be physical or verbal. There's also the whole, "I just got _____ killstreak and now I feel awesome because I can take advantage of glitches" thing going for them.
Simple answer: Immaturity and what I like to call super-ego

to completely answer your question; ingnorant pride for countries that don't care if the people that live in those countries fight and die in some far off land for nothing.
and ww2 is topical seeing as how it just ended a few weeks ago and i personally think that any country with a McDonalds in it is secretly owned by america which is owned by McDonalds.
but this is just my opinion which means it's the truth and you're a stupid brit if you think other wise.
it's certainly not d-bags trolling though...

Nope, the Gears community is actually quite more civil and has been for awhile now. Gears 3 MP will be an unforgettable experience.
