Whats with all the remakes!?

I used the searchbar and didn't find any thing sooo....
I mean movies, look at the past few years, everything has been based off an old tv show or old movie, and i know that there are new movies coming out, but can you say the majority arn't sequals or remakes? For a while it was acceptable, but the writers strike is over! There should be more new then old in the theater! You opinions?

Executives are running out of patience for people to create good original material, so they just revive old stuff that people remember fondly.
