"Well, I AM a hardcore individualist. I believe that the good of the community should never be put above the rights of the individual without a mass vote."

What?! So youre saying: 'the rights of one are better than rights of all... but we all need to have a huge vote first to see if its alright. xD

So the community gets to decide whats good for the individual? Sorry if im interperting what you are saying wrong, but its very hypocritical. If the rights of the individual are superior, than whatever the community says means diddaly-squat in comparison.

Am i reading into what you are saying wrong? :S

...the last post was seriously in July? I could have sworn there was another post on this thread this month...

Anyway, I just came up with this while watching a video on Youtube. Heath Ledger was an alright Joker but his laugh as the Joker was terrible when compared to Nicholson and Hamill.

No, that's Yahtzee's controversial opinion. You can agree with it, sure, but now come up with your own.

Right, here goes.

Pedophiles are not monsters. They can be good people.

Granted, it would so much easie to just go with the flow and hate on and fear pedos while knowing literally nothing about them or their attractions, but merely assuming they all want to molest children.

But I'm not the type of person to settle for easy, that's why I'm not religious. I've gone deeper into this and actually learned something. Know all those child abuse/rape cases you keep hearing about in the news? Yeah, turns out most of those are not actually pedos, they're just rapists. Your average, run of the mill sick rapist who simply chose an easier victim.

Saying that all pedophiles rape children is EXACTLY the same as claiming all heterosexuals rape people of the opposite gender. It's ridiculous and has no grounding in reality.

Pedos, like heterosexuals or any other orientation for that matter, are fully capable of controlling their urges, and not acting on them, like, ever. I actually know a pedo who's told me in confidence that he's exclusively attracted to children, and he's prepared to never experience any form of sexual contact for the rest of his life, besides masturbating. Oh, and he's perfectly ok with that.

And as far as REAL pedos go, what I've learned is that they have a deep care for children more than anything else, and they actually respect children as fellow individuals, unlike some "normal" people who would treat children as personal property or non-members of society, viewing them as half-finished adults.

And don't even get me started on the ridiculous pedo myths that seems to be accepted as truths without any backing. "All pedos download child porn." All pedos are old, fat greasy men with trench coats and skin problems." etc...

Sometimes I'm starting to think the anti-pedo witch hunting masses are more afraid of knowledge than anything else.
The only reason this opinion is controversial is because people need butt monkeys.
Since most people find this kind of attraction to be, well "icky", and there have been a number of very bad people have had these feeling, it becomes very easy for even otherwise reasonable people to call for EUGENIC POLICIES and PUBLIC EXECUTIONS.
Come on people, let's not give into crowd pleasing pandering and lets treat the issue like calm and rational adults.
I've worked and "spied" on a handful of real ones.
They aren't often violent or outgoing.
They're normal, often innocent people, that understand they have an anomaly.
We need to treat them like people, if we want to prevent the crazy and violent elements from being able to hide until it's too late.
Basically, the police need to start WORKING WITH 12chan

the world would be better of without religion.
I,m not saying it is going to bring world peace (humans will find something to fight over) but religion says things are this way because of design limiting how far people want to go to research things.

A couple government spending-related ones:

1) It's funny that Americans keep talking about cutting 'entitlements' (less than ten years ago, it was 'government assistance,' then it was 'handouts,' now it's 'entitlements.' Sorry if some people's desire to eat comes across as entitled) as a measure of balancing the budget. This is because the people who are on these programs get maybe a couple hundred dollars a month to live off of, while the Department of Defense gets hundreds of billions of dollars, most of which doesn't even go to the soldiers: it goes to building newer ways to blow up brown people thousands of miles away (and piss them off even more) and to mercenaries. The U.S. could cut the DoD budget by at least 25% and not effect one soldier, ever.

2) Speaking of 'entitlements': most of the people on those programs use that money to buy shit. This is good for the economy, because you can give all the billions you want to defense contractors, the oil industry, or banks as you want, but that money doesn't really filter through the rest of the country that much, while those on food stamps, welfare, etc. are using them to buy food, keep their homes, and then using what little money they do have to buy all that excess stuff that makes an economy thrive. This makes people on 'entitlements' actually quite useful, and we, as a country, should stop scapegoating them.
