Scientology might be a conspiracy theory... for those who believe in it. For those who don't the conspiracy theory is a hokey religion made up by a bad scifi writer conning folks out of their money. But they get people off drugs, so its ok right?
Seriously tho, 9/11 conspiracy, the Bush/Cheney/Katrina levee conspiracy, the Republican weather control conspiracy, these things are so ridiculous they gotta be true right?

Not exactly a "conspiracy" by the traditional understanding, but I have long been of the belief that the Daily Mail is the world's longest running satire publication, and nobody else has cottoned on.

You know, I used to think Ke$ha was a satirical artist. Not quite the same, but how can you watch Tik-Tok and take her seriously?

Definitely the moon landing. Every single "fact" someone comes up with prove that they aren't on the moon always ends up being explained by "because they're on the fucking moon".

Why is this picture so clear even into the distance?
becuase there isn't any air on the moon to distort your view
why aren't there any stars?
because its daytime on the moon and sun is too bright to see them

All those hundreds of pounds of moon rock with microcraters caused collisions with space dust on the moon's surface? Well obviously they were fabricated using magic

The one that buggs me the most is "how did they take all those pictures?" Uh gee because you can take like a dozen pictures under 10 seconds with their cameras?

You're right, why would ANYONE want to cling to that?
Then why the hell do we wean children off Santa Claus?

Because you can't "wean" people off death. Even if I wasn't Christian I'd still rather have something in mind even its not a full religion like say, reincarnation

The one where they said Lee Harvey Oswald killed John F. Kennedy. That one's hilarious.

I think you may appreciate these. I wouldn't be surprised if you've seen them before:

Bill Hicks at Oxford [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7NIytv1LOE&feature=player_detailpage#t=94s]

Bill Hicks' Revelations Album [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0bIRkv29xk&feature=player_detailpage#t=57s]

Skipped to the best parts for you, I though I'd wholeheartedly recommend watching them in their entirety.

The double-layered conspiracy that is Area 51 (AKA Groom Lake AFB). It's a fairly clever idea actually, someone sees something in the skies over Nevada or nearby, and they announce there to be aliens in Area 51. The government do they're "we cannot confirm nor deny these claims" spiel and everyone takes it as a hidden admission, leaving them free to build test planes in peace. At least, that's how I figure it, I could be wrong.

Flat Earth Society or whatever the hell they're called. It's so funny but don't visit their forum or you'll lose a few hundred brain cells.
Yeah, the trouble with the Flat-Earthers, however, is that I can never be sure which ones are serious...are any of them serious? Are they all trolls? Are there just a couple of serious ones and the rest trolls who are egging them on? I dunno. It's quite hard to tell sometimes, because some of them have clearly put a great deal of effort into their theories...

I'm pretty sure it's a well known fact that the American government did something similar on December 7 of 1941.
It's a well known conspiracy theory, not a fact.
No, based on what I looked up and the history books I read it did actually happen, hell even the Japanese ambassador was held up for 3 something hours just so they could say japan attacked without a declaration of war, so that the Americans could look like victims.

But hey, besides the Internet, history books and TV what do any of us really know about events that took place 70 years ago?
Are you referring to the cracked Japanese codes? Because those were diplomatic, and had nothing to do with the attack on Pearl Harbor. There is absolutely no proof that it was allowed to happen with prior warning, and honestly the idea that a government planning on going to war would allow the majority of their assets to be destroyed is kind of ridiculous.

All that Ancient Alien crap.

Seriously, they try to include EVERY mysterious thing in the world as part of their theory, from Atlantis to the Bermuda Triangle.

It's all easily debunked stuff, but makes for a fascinating story.
Oh, but what about crop circles? We have one which even replies to the message we have sent into space. Telling us both that they are silicon based organisms with a DNA which is slightly different than ours.

Of course someone who knows basic biochemistry knows that the backbone of DNA is a carbohydrate and the nitrogenous bases are purines and pyrimidine (also carbon based molecules) so they can't possibly have DNA. They also don't have any logical explanation to why they choose to communicate using crop circles, but I have heard they think it is because that's the way they can avoid government cover up.

Yeah, I'll go with aliens, at least the moon landing thing got a shred of logic to it.

My favorite has to be the Hallow Earth and Ancient Aliens. Neither of them are true...well, I firmly believe in the Ancient Aliens one though. XD. That and we were made by outsider forces, not a god. It just makes more clear sense to me.

I'm quite fond of "X allegedly dead musician is really alive" conspiracies. They're just great forms of wishful thinking, and some of them even seem plausible. In fact, I personally don't think Kurt Cobain is dead. The facts just don't add up, people!

The one where Area 51 contains UFOs and apparently frequently flies them around for people to observe. And even better, that the US government is happy to let these go un-debunked because they will convince some people the objects are not modern experimental military aircraft.

And while I'm at it, the Illuminati. I highly doubt that business executives come together once a year and plan out how they are going to take over the world. As far as I'm concerned you don't need a formal consipracy for business executives to know what makes them money.

Recently, my little brothers been going on about how all these shows apparently predicted 9/11 and how it was an inside job. I literally break down everything he says, only for him to pull up some more bullshit. It's kinda funny...and annoying, but still funny.

Now the Illuminati stuff, especially with cartoons, that makes me laugh. Seriously, the bullshit these people say, about triangles and "ruining the youth." It's just absolute idiotic drivel. Seriously, it's just plain fucking hilarious. Especially some of the stuff involving a cartoon called Gravity Falls.

"Oh noes, this cartoon has triangles and eye balls!11!! ILLUMINATI!!111"

Considering the premise of Gravity Falls, those are probably Easter eggs put in there by the animators to either mess with the conspiracy theorists or get a chuckle out of those in the know. The show is kind of like what would happen if all the weird stuff from The X-Files happened in one small town, and the same two kids witnessed it all.

Trivia:

At least back in the 1980's many members of The Flat Earth Society were prominent genuine scientists who joined the Society on a lark because it amused them to dream up ways to "confirm" that the earth was flat. It was a joke to them, and it probably is to many of the Society's 'loyal' members today.

I always like to give conspiracy theories the benefit of the doubt, I'm not one of those guys who dismisses everything that goes against the official truth (within reason).

I'll buy the fake moon landing, the 9/11 inside job, and the UFO Area 51 alien conspiracies to a certain extent
I'm not sure "within reason" applies here, since your three examples rely in part on complete lies. It's one thing to think the government isn't telling us the complete truth (which is actually probably a safe bet) and another entirely to believe things with shoestring
"proof."

And that's assuming your "to a certain extent" disclaimer means you don't go into details like the physics fail behind 9-11 claims or certain claims about the moon landing.
To a certain extent means for example that I'm not against the idea that the American government would let 3000 people die to justify an invasion of certain middle eastern countries so they could obtain oil and build army bases. I'm pretty sure it's a well known fact that the American government did something similar on December 7 of 1941.

I'm not against the idea of the faked Moon Landing because the It's pretty clear that the only reason America was involved in the space race was out of a dick waving contest with the Soviet Union, and the fact that NASA pretty much went to shit right after 1969.

As for Area 51, well why the fuck not? With all the religions on this planet why are UFO believers getting all the ridicule?

Ahem...I'll just leave this here...[footnote]I've never gotten to say that before. Is it as annoying as I think it is?[/footnote]

xkcd: Moon Landing

OT: My favorite conspiracy is that The Brovengers and The Injustice League represent two ostensibly opposing Forum Groups but are in fact a front for Conspirators who intend to take over The Escapist.

You want proof? Have you noticed how many Escapists have admitted from time to time to being members of BOTH GROUPS?!?

It's a conspiracy, I tell you!

But now that I've revealed their dastardly scheme they'll be after me! You've gotta help me! I don't wanna die!

Last note before The Men In Black "disappear" me:

xkcd: Curiosity[footnote]Who sees the Easter Egg?[/footnote]

Isn't it funny how we don't hear any Conspiracy Theorists griping that the Curiosity landing on Mars is faked? But they'll go on about the Moon Landing. Maybe because it happened within their own life times rather than before they were born.

Selective reasoning, I suppose...
