With this most recent generation of consoles coming to a close, I want to provide gamers the opportunity to express their own list of the top ten games they've played since the release of the Wii, Xbox 360 and the PS3. Chances are we will be hearing of other sites listing their own top ten games, and they will most likely center upon their respective GotY games for the past few years. But this time around, you the gamer have the chance to voice which games from this generation have made an impact upon you, be it emotional in breadth or perhaps on a more entertaining and technically satisfying level. Note, this can be either your TOP ten in order or simply your ten favorite games of the past generation in no particular order. Try to select a single game from a series if you've got a favorite series. For example, I LOVE Assassin's Creed as a series but I selected my favorite game from the series to make room for other games. Only add other games from a series if you haven't played any other/enough games to fill a top ten favorites list.
My ten favorite games of the past generation (in no particular order) are:
10.) Halo 3
9.) Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
8.) The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
7.) Arkham City
6.) Mass Effect 3
5.) Infamous 2
4.) The Walking Dead
3.) Dishonored
2.) Red Dead Redemption
1.) Bioshock Infinite

I gotta say making lists sure is fun isn't it?

Anyway heres my list also in no particular order (except for number 1).

1. Valkyria Chronicles
2. Batman Arkham Asylum
3. Mass Effect 2
4. Dark Souls
5. Heavy Rain
6. Portal 2
7. Bioshock
8. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
9. Uncharted
10. Journey

I'd like to make a shout out to Shadow of the Colossus as well which I didn't include because I'm aware it's a game from an earlier generation, just noted as I personally never had the chance to play it until it was re-released on the Playstation 3.

1. Tie between Monster Hunter 3 Tri & Xenoblade
2. Skyward Sword
3. The Last Story
4. Okami (I only got to play the Wii version)
5. Metroid Prime 3
6. Dishonored
7. Mass Effect 2
8. Twilight Princess
9. Batman Arkham City
10. Metroid Other M (The story was as atrocious as people say, but I couldn't help but enjoy the actual game part)

MAN! Wii U has some cool looking RPGs coming up. Can't wait for X2 (or Xenoform or whatever they end up calling it) and SMT x FE. Hoping that Monster Hunter 4 gets localized for Wii U like they did with Ultimate. Looks awesome!

Ironic thing is, that the best games I've played during this generation are the ones from past generation. So, just because I'm a cheater like that I'm gonna include them.
1)Persona 3: Portable/FES and Persona 4: Golden-Probably the best accident that ever happened during my gaming life. If not for a wrong file I would've never discovered these gems
2)Front Mission 4 and 5-After years of changing laptops and messing around with emulator settings I was finally able to play sequels to my favorite game of all time. While story is just too far away from quality of FM3, the improvements to gameplay are just astonishing.
3)Mass Effect 2-I love all ME games, but second is by far my favorite
4)Bioshock: Infinite-astounding visuals, astounding design, astounding story, and astounding Elizabeth
5)King's Bounty: Armored Princess-it amazes just how good Russian studios are at making Turn Based Strategies. First there was Operation Silent Storm, then HoMM5, and then King's bounty. Take HoMM's style battle but without city management, add some compelling and funny story, give us cute little pet dragon who can annihilate entire armies and we'll be happy
6)Torchlight 2-this is what Diablo 3 should have been. A manifestation of click'm'em up style RPG with a loot up the butt!
7)Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2-I thing I'm in a minority who prefers MW2 to MW1, but even up to day, MW2 has probably the most intense and satisfying single player campaign I've ever played.
8)Bastion-I don't even have to explain that
9)Thomas Was Alone-I have to include that game. Short, original, satisfying and tear jerking experience.
10)The Walking Dead-Even though after consequent completions I've realized that my choices meant buggerall, I still enjoyed story and characters very much.

1. Portal 2

4. LA Noire
5. Left 4 Dead 2
6. Oblivion
7. Hitman: Blood Money
8. Mafia 2
9. PGR 3
10. GTA IV

I'll be honest, I didn't put much thought into this list. Rockstar seem to be very well represented in it.

In no order for me:

Dark Souls
Assassins Creed II
Arkham Asylum
Persona 4 Arena
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
Sonic Generations
Deus Ex Human Revolution
Journey, Flower, & Flow

And I can't think anymore. I've been more PC oriented this generation, but I can't include that because OP asked specifically for console games.

8.) Halo: Reach
7.) Dark Souls
6.) Journey
5.) Muramasa: The Demon Blade
4.) Ninety Nine Nights
3.) Dragon's Dogma

In no particular order;

Arkham Asylum/ City (because I love both so dearly)
Uncharted 2
Mass Effect 2
DE: Human Revolution
Portal series (again, I can't choose between the two)
Red Dead Redemption
Bioshock Infinite
Fallout 3
Spec Ops
I'm reserving this spot until The Last of Us comes out, but if that sucks then Assassin's Creed 2 I guess.

I absolutely love making lists...and here's mine! I would still consider this generation to be ongoing until all Microsoft and, Sony release their new consoles. Once all three are out, that's the official beginning for me. After all, this current generation didn't start until "Sony told us" it began. Anyway, here's my list of my 10 favorite games from this generation:

I chose the original Mass Effect because of how optimistic it made me. The Galaxy is huge and, expansive with seemingly limitless potential. I loved the character customization, where you could potentially play the game 6 times and you'll still have missed out on things. This game felt a lot like Knights of the Old Republic but with a good shooting mechanic. This was my favorite game in terms of plot in the trilogy with my favorite bad-guy and, my favorite resolution. 2 and 3 were great but there was something special about the first that I just can't ignore. This one also felt like the biggest to me since you could beam down to almost any planet and drive around in a flying ATV. Way better than a stupid probe.

This game is Dynasty Warriors. This game is also Fist of the North Star (which is one of my favorite anime series of all time). This is one of the few times when I think the Dynasty Warrior formula actually makes sense: The main characters in Fist of the North Star know powerful martial arts which allow them the strength and stamina necessary to not only kill hundreds of people within minutes but in spectacularly gruesome ways! The main game follows the plot of the anime pretty well too, with a dream mode made up of 'what-if' stories staring the characters who you're able to unlock as you play the main mode. I spent well over a hundred hours playing this, unlocked every achievement and, am currently sitting at 98% completion. I absolutely loved this game and really, really wish there was a physical release of the sequel in the US...

Everybody on the cover of this game's box is available to use either outright or, as an assist. JUMP Ultimate Stars is very similar to Smash Brothers Brawl or, Sony All-Star and while I had fun with both of those games this generation, I wasn't compelled to get either of those whereas I imported this game as soon as I knew it existed. There are multiple levels based on various graphic novels owned by JUMP. There are three battle modes which keeps things nice and varied and the number of set-ups you can use in battle really makes this game unique compared to other fighting games. This game should work on 3DS consoles as well as all models of the DS so if you're interested definitely try and get your hands on it.

I liked Dead Rising; it did what any good launch game should in that it showed off what the Xbox 360 was capable of by featuring hundreds (well probably just dozens) of Zombies on screen simultaneously in a really good looking, spacious setting. Dead Rising 2 does what any good sequel does by expanding upon the formula of the original (bigger locale, deeper NPC protection/safe guarding/escorting, more enemies on screen etc.). The best thing about Dead Rising 2 however is how you can take two almost completely random items and combine them into a bad-ass Zombie busting weapon of mass destruction. This mechanic gets rid of the somewhat strange camera/photography aspect of the original game. Not a single complaint came out of my mouth.

I chose the original over the sequel for a couple of reasons. Like with Mass Effect one, there was a freshness to the original that just doesn't remain when a great original idea is turned into a franchise. I loved Portal 2 but it just wasn't as magical as the original. Portal 2 also felt overlong but not in the same way as Crysis 2 or, Half-Life 2...more like, overlong in that it's stretching to keep you from the ending. Finally, the original Portal was a singular, single-player experience. I don't dislike multiplayer games but when I'm playing a game that features multiplayer I can't help but feel like I'm being given the single player version reluctantly. Portal one is an excellent little game; full of clever puzzles and, excellently black humor that I ate up with a spoon. Besides, I went back to Portal 1 more often than I did with the sequel so it wins in my books.

Pokemon Soul Silver is probably my all-time favorite remake. I imported Soul Silver the day it released in Japan and had beaten it up to having defeated Red on Mount Silver months before the US got Heart Gold/Soul Silver. When we did get it here, I bought and beat Heart Gold. Johto and Kanto have been updated visually and have never looked as good as they do in these versions. The gameplay is just as addictive as every other game in the series and the addition of a Pokewalker and, the various other mini-games just kept me hooked for months upon months. I kind of fell out of Pokemon around the DS era but Heart Gold and Soul Silver definitely got me back into the franchise.

I loved this game so much that despite beating it on the Xbox 360, I planned on getting the Wii U version...which still isn't out for some reason...some weird, unknown reason. Anyway, this is a first person shooter wherein you are Robocop...only not really because it isn't hyper-violent. Actually I had the most fun trying to get through (and succeeding in) beating this game without killing anybody...except for the stupid, stupid bosses. Boss fights aside though, I loved this game from the aesthetic to the various styles of play I could have taken...although I'm unsure why everything in Neo-Detroit happens at night...in Neo-Shanghai you're underground kinda so there's that but what's Detroit's excuse?

This is basically the same game as Fallout 3: The biggest differences being the level-up system, setting/characters and, items. There is also a hardcore mode which makes it necessary for you to sleep, drink water and, eat food. Furthermore, the game has invisible walls set up which keeps player characters from going to certain places too soon. This is annoying at first but the enhancements made to your arsenal in addition to the new Level Up system makes New Vegas the one I enjoy more so than Fallout 3. I love that this can be either a first or third person game, I love how this game is ultra-violent but still offers a perk that makes the game even more violent and I love the fact that ELVIS GIVES YOU A ROBOT DOG. COD Dog is nice but it's not a Robot Dog and it's not given to you by an Elvis impersonator.

This is by far my favorite 3DS game. I've spent roughly 100 hours on this game and I haven't even purchased all of the DLC either (though honestly I don't plan to get all of the DLC). This is a rhythm game similar to Guitaroo Man or, Elite Beat Agents in that you follow prompts on the bottom screen in time to the musical track you've chosen. The game is presented in 3 types of songs: travel songs, event songs and, battle songs. You form a party of four characters, unlocking more characters as you play and, leveling them up as you complete levels. Even though some scenes are taken directly from their source game, the overall presentation of this game is more of a chibi style, making everybody look absolutely adorable. If you have a 3DS and like Rhythm games at all you owe it to yourself to at least TRY this game.

Saint's Row 2 is the all-time best crime sandbox game out there. You start out where the original ended: in a Prison-Hospital shortly after having been blown up. The explosion was so intense that you could have changed your race and gender! Anyway, you start out escaping prison and then must work your way from the very bottom to the top: Nothing is given to you in this game. You don't just start out with helicopters and, air-strikes. The customization is deeper than in Saint's Row 1 or 3, allowing you to be gender neutral and change your socks if you want to. The gangs you have to take out are varied and unique. The mini-games you engage in range from standard assassinations to bat-shit insane stuff like throwing old people into jet engines or, spraying houses with shit. Saint's Row 3 wasn't bad but it wasn't Saint's Row 2.

1 - Red Dead Redemption
2 - Mass Effect 2
3 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
4 - BioShock Infinite
5 - Portal 2
6 - The Walking Dead
7 - Super Mario Galaxy
8 - Skyrim
9 - Batman Arkham City
10 - Dead Space

I know people have their opinions on the Modern Warfare series, but it must be said that the first one was amazing, despite the bad things it did for shooters and the moral standing of companies such as EA, Activision and MicroSoft.

BioShock Infinite's third act:
When you get transported to Rapture, and you can hear 'Beyond the Sea' playing. I saw the Securis door and realised where I was. I nearly cried with happiness

It made me smile like no game has made me do so since...I don't actually know when. The Walking Dead and Red Dead Redemption are the only games to make me experience happiness and sorrow like that moment did.

Portal 2 is there instead of Portal 1 because it simply made everything better (in my opinion). Storywise and puzzle-wise, the formula was improved and refined, so your return to Aperture Science was just the right length.

Coming to think of it, I'm not even sure whether the placement of these games are right in the order they stand in...except Red Dead Redemption. That game is responsible for my extra year at college, and I honestly don't care.

This was, for me, an extremely polarizing generation, with some of the best(Nier) and worst(Heavy Rain) games that I've ever played seeing the cold light of day. I don't even know if I can come up with ten games of this generation that I enjoyed, though, since this is the generation that infected video games with the corporate virus to a greater degree than ever before. Let's see.

In no particular order: Dark Souls. Nier. Final Fantasy XIV. BioShock. Spec Ops: The Line. Mass Effect 2. Bastion. No More Heroes. Final Fantasy XIII. Ummmhmmmgrrrrrrrr Mortal Kombat, I guess?

There you go, there's ten. If pressed to rank them, it'd go something like this:

1. Nier
2. Final Fantasy XIV
3. Bastion
4. Spec Ops: The Line
5. Mass Effect 2
6. Dark Souls
7. Final Fantasy XIII
8. BioShock
9. No More Heroes
10. Mortal Kombat

Hmm. In no particular order...

Bayonetta (pretty much has taken the hack and slash crown as far as I'm concerned)
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Hitman: Blood Money (more or less the perfect execution of the concept)
Infamous 2
Hotline: Miami
Dark Souls
Valkyria Chronicles
Batman Arkham Asylum/City (Didn't really want to pick)
Super Meat Boy
Geometry Wars 2: Retro Evolved

I wanted to stick to games that I not only had a great experience going through, but ones that I can keep come back to (and have) and enjoy again and again.
