When was the last time you cried and/or teared up during a video game?

No tears, just shock, fury, or sadness. Some moments in games I'm really into will make whisper, "No..." And sometimes scream it. The endings to Kingdom Hearts and LoZ Twilight Princess(more so , considering the character in question) come to mind, being separated forever from one of the few characters you've actually cared about...

On the fury and shock side, in Rome Total War, I'm bringing my finest general and leader by navy to oversee the destruction of the Greeks, he seems safe(5 triremes and a quinquireme escort fleet), so I hit the turn button.... And see him and his fleet wiped of the map by the Egyptians. What's worse is that I could do nothing about it...

The end Boss fight in Metal Gear Solid 3, and then after all is said and done the ending sequence.

I didn't cry, but I definitely had to wipe my eyes.
It took me a long time to press the button to kill her, after i did me and my housemate just sat in silence for quite some time.

I registered with this site just to tell you what a fag you are. HAHAHA. Crying over a video game. This generation is doomed.
I normally wouldn't dignify this with a response, but here goes anyway.
If this generation is 'doomed' as you say, it's not because of people getting emotional over art (and yes, games ARE art when done right, just like music can be art or that damn pop crap you never stop hearing). It's because of bigoted idiots like you who have nothing better to do with their time than tell people who enjoy different forms of entertainment than you that they're homosexuals. You make me sad, and my faith in the human race has just dropped thanks to you.

You gonna cry about it or do you save that for video games?
You say this generation is doomed while you yourself hasn't come further than the bully you were in third grade? : )

Oh, wow. What brilliant move are you going to make next? Insulting my mom?
And I'm not going to let you goad me after this, it's not worth losing my dignity. Just know that you are an idiot, okay?

The only thing you can tease NotPigeon about is still having some faith in humanity, get over it man most people are just assholes and should be left to die.

COD4 Shock and Awe is the game that makes me tear up.

I cried when my I lost my save file on Tony Hawk's American Wasteland.

LOLPATHETIC.

I got really emotional at the end of Portal, but that's just because the whole game was so amazing.

I got emotional at the end of Half-Life 2, when the explosion goes off and time freezes. My reaction to seeing the G-man wasn't exactly crying, though. It was more like, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

You can't really even tease me about that; my 'faith of humanity' is really just "Well, not everyone's a total moron. You get a few diamonds in the rough now and again." You have no idea how many times I've been told that I'm too negative.

I think every once in a while I had a little bit of hot tears of frustration where I just COULD NOT get past this one part.

Tears of sadness get me once in a while.
The first time I cried because of a vidya game was at the end of Kingdom Hearts one. Not only had I just beaten my first vidya game, but it was amazing and heartbreaking and 'NO WHERE ARE YOU GOING COME BACK'. So I guess it was partial shock, partial sadness, and partial joy.

The last time I cried was, as many other people had said, the ending of episode two. That knocked me on my fucking ass, man. I knew he was going to die, but I didn't know how he was going to die, and when it happened... Jesus H. Christ, that hit me to my CORE. I couldn't stop imagining that it was my own father, and me and him are really tight. I remember shaking and dropping the controller and staring numbly at the screen, then running upstairs to give my old man a big hug.

Now I'm starting to feel like a little girl so I'm going to end this on a positive note: I DIDN'T CARE THAT THE COMPANION CUBE DIED. I dropped him in the Aperture Science Emergency Intelligence Incinerator like it was NOTHING. The punk.

Probably the one that got to me was the death of Emma in MGS2. Mostly because I thought she had been saved, then she just collapses.
That was a great scene. I remember I teared up when Emma died, then Otacon walks away and you figure he's gonna get over it quickly, so you try to shake it off, but then the parrot starts saying "I love you" and "I miss you" and then Otacon lost it... and then I lost it.

2) The scene where they *make* you fire the shot that kills The Boss in MGS3. I didn't tear up, but that was a powerful, powerful moment.

3) The entire ending to Shadow of the Colossus. From what happened to my own character to seeing Agro again after thinking he was dead, that ending really got to me. Plus knowing that after everything you did, you never even got to see the girl again (let alone say anything to her) and that she'd never really know what had happened to her or even where she was. Yeah...

4) The entire ending to Ico. Between the absolutely incredible ending theme and realizing that after all you'd both been through there was no hope for Yorda...

Watching the opening screen of Twilight Princess.

The music, in particular, got me to tear up quite a bit.

It wasn't so much any one scene in the game proper, since I had yet to so much as start a file; more like it was the months and months worth of waiting for this game, the anticipation, the total and utter lack of knowing anything of what was gonna happen in the game beyond three short trailers and a handful of screenshots I've seen dozens of times already.

But mainly, it was the thought that the wait was over, and I could finally play what was promised as the greatest game ever made, and that really got to me for no reason.

Oh, and the fact that it's one of the best games ever created didn't hurt, either.

I can't say I've ever cried for a video game, but a few certainly came close. The ending for Half-Life 2 Episode 2, for sure. Valve did a fantastic job with that scene. The beginning to the third mission of Homeworld as well, and to a lesser degree the ending of CoD4. The one that really knocked me off my seat though, was the third to last mission in Freespace 2, the mission where the Colossus is destroyed. Seeing the most powerful warship the human race has being ripped to shreds almost casually will certainly make you feel like you're fighting a battle you can't possibly win, and bring sadness at the deaths of sixty thousand of your fellow men. I recall staring at the screen blankly for at least a minute wondering if what I had seen was real (in terms of in-game reality or...oh you get my point). For the most part, though, I don't stay sad very long. I usually just get fighting mad and vow to kick the unholy shit out of whoever just made the mistake of killing someone I like.

And for the record, I happily disposed of the Companion Cube :p
