Which game is best for a single player - Just Cause 2, Borderlands, or Batman Arkham City?

Batman Arkham City, Just Cause 2, Borderlands

I have all the games and love all of them, but Borderlands really isn't very fun if you're playing by yourself. It's one of those games where coop is the core experience, and without that, you're missing out on the entire point of the game.

Just Cause 2 is one of those games that's great for messing around, but that's about it. I mean, it's a fantastic game, and all the mechanics are solid, but it's also one of those games where you really have to make your own fun. The missions and story aren't nearly as worth while as just causing random mayhem.

Batman Arkham City is the most structured experience out of the three, and definitely has the best story, which is the biggest thing I look for in a single player game. It's also fairly long, and quite a lot of fun, with tons of secrets and collectables to find, and a new game plus mode if you want to extend your playing time. Don't play it without playing Arkham Asylum first though.

1. Batman: Arkham City
2. Just Cause 2
3. Borderlands

Borderlands is a reasonably decent game when playing on your own but it becomes a great game when playing with friends.

Just Cause 2 can be immensely fun, but it also has it's fair share of boring moments as well.

Batman: Arkham City is definitely the best of the three though. Best story, best combat, loads of things to find, different challenges to complete, just an amazing game.

Arkham City is good. I managed to enjoy it despite being kind of determined to hate it, which is about as high praise as I can give. The storyline is tripe, but everything else is solid. I just wish it wasn't a Batman game.

Just Cause 2 can be good fun. Just hit the mute button whenever someone starts talking and, for the love of God, don't try and 100% it.

Borderlands... well, other people seem to like it. I can't stand it. Tedious and overly repetitive combat against bullet sponge enemies, dull visuals, repetitive quests and the people who made it clearly think they are about twenty times funnier than they really are.

I'm going to have to deviate from the norm here.

Just Cause 2
Batman: Arkham City
Borderlands

Is how I'd rank them. Just Cause 2 lets you do all kinds of silly stuff, especially when you get really good at using the parachute and grappling hook in tandem. Arkham City...eh...I didn't really like it. At least, not compared to Arkham Asylum. Not sure why, but it was just like...the main thing about Arkham City is that it lacked focus. And as was mentioned by someone else, Borderlands is all about the co-op.

If you want to know exactly what it feels like to be batman, there's no better game than arkham city.

If you like surfing planes, strip clubs suspended a mile high in the air by giant balloons, grappling hooks, and anything james bond related, you'll love just cause 2.

1 Just cause 2 is miles bigger than Arkham city and has more to do in it.
2 Arkham city is fun but fairly short and easy.
3 Borderlands is just poor. Item based RPGs are an aquired taste, especially single player

Arkham City is the BEST game. It's gorgeous, it plays extremely well, and the production values are super high. Just a really nice game, and well made.

Just Cause 2, however, is the most FUN. That's all the game is. Just stupid, mindless, glorious, chaotic fun. The voice acting and story are absolutely atrocious, but it's fun as hell to play.

Have not played Borderlands.

Well Arkham City has the full package, story, characters, varied gameplay elements, level design, exploration,... all of it good. Obviously you need the GOTY version because the content was chopped up worse then a christmas turkey.

Just Cause 2 is all about the awesome engine, it offers infinite fuck-around-ability but that is also all it has, if you try to pay attention to the story the game actually gets worse.

Borderlands is somewhere in between, best way to describe it is Dibalo FPS, they got lots of stuff going on but sadly it all falls a bit short of where it should be.

Sorry, I forgot to also put 'Dead Island' in the title....... how does that compare to the other 3?

It's crap.

I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you can get it dirt cheap. Even then it's questionable whether or not it's worth your time.

It has combat that consists of running up to zombies and mindlessly mashing left click and... and that's it. Combat is the only thing in the game and it sucks.

On the upside, you do get to hear Steve Blum doing an Australian accent.

1.Just Cause 2
Hours and hours and hours and fucking hours of fun 'blowing shit up' times.

2.Borderlands
I've always found it fun in single player more than other people tend to. I've got 2 of each character all around level 40-50, so I've dumped serious hours into it.

3.Arkham Asylum
I played the demo, and it's definitely not a bad game, at all, let's just get that out of the way. However I personally wouldn't want to play it when put up against the other two choices.
Once again, great game, I'm just sort of 'bleh' about it.

First Just Cause 2 for pure fun and longevity, Batman next for it's overall awesomeness but it doesn't last as long as JC and the DLC sucks apart from the Catwoman one, then Borderlands which is great but can get a little boring after a awhile might be better to wait for 2 and finally Dead Island, I wouldn't really bother with it unless you can find it cheap or rent it it's really disappointing especially after what that awesome trailer promised us.

It depends what you are looking for, OP; I love all those games for different reasons (except Dead Island which is utter horseshit)

If I were to rank them in terms of what I've got most play time out of then it'd be

Borderlands (Single player only)
Just Cause 2
Arkham City

But in terms of what the best games are it'd probably be the other way round.

Just Cause 2 and then arkham city - only because of the fact I found arkham city quite easy difficulty wise, and storylines for main and side quests short. But as some have said, there are loads of collectables in it as well. Both are high quality first player experiences.

Give borderlands a miss though. Havent played it, but I know its a multiplayer game. avoid at all costs
