Which way to play RE 1

Believe it or not I still haven't played Resident Evil 1, and well now I think it's time that I do. However as many of you might know there are several ways I can approach it. I could get it off the PSOne Classics on PSN, I could buy the Resident Evil Archives version, or even just get the old GC port.

Which way should I go? Personally I think the PSN version would be best since I don't have a classic controller or GC controller, I would need to spend extra money. However since they are remakes they might be better to play than the old version on the PS1. So which should I get?

Well in your situation, the PS network is the way to go. Although to my knowledge it doesn't really matter, except for what control scheme you like best.

You should invest in a GC controller. I imagine that they are fairly inexpensive now. Also, I thought that the GC version did clean up a lot of the dumb things from the original Resident Evil. It's not perfect, but I thought they did a good job with the port.

The port on the GC has new areas, as well, does it not? I have it. I love it. I play it regularly.

Definitely the original or the game cube one, I'd vote for the game cube version since it has such amazing graphics and added content (doesn't change the game any, just adds more backstory, but in a good way, not a Star Wars way)

The GC RE isn't a port so much as a remake, and quite frankly the original RE (on PSone and PSN) looks like a steaming pile of ass compared to REmake.

Find a GC controller for 10 bucks, it's worth it.

with low expectations, I never liked RE1 or 2, I only liked 3 for some reason, 4 was greatness and 5 wasn't as good as it should have been

GC port definitely GC port. It will be well worth the investment for the controller. I loved PS1 RE1 but the GC remake was simply orgasmic. And not because the graphics were shinier (but it did help) but because they improved on damn near everything throughout the game (except for the story it is still B movie cheesey goodness).

it really depends on how appreciative of the game you are. i played through re1 on the ps1 when i was seven years old, shortly after it had come out. i loved the game, terrible graphics and bad voice-acting and all.

if the game you want to play is resident evil 1, get the ps1 version or that port from psn you were talking about.

if you want a game that is similar to it but much harder, prettier, and by all accounts BETTER, get the gamecube version. i work in a game store...even if you own nothing needed to play it you could get the whole bundle for under 60 bucks if you know how to look.

if money is no object, or not much of an object, get both, as they are two unique and great games. just avoid the awful ds port like the plague.

The gamecube version wasn't a port. It was a Remake. It took everything the first game had, and enhanced it. It's a very true to heart remake. It canned ALOT of the bad voice acting (not to say it's not all gone) that the original was famous for, and added in a few elements to tie in future games like RE3.

RE1 used to be my all time favorite RE. Then the GC version blew me away. It's scary as hell too! I love it to dust. ;)

Get the GameCube version. It has enhanced graphics, better voice acting and is much more polished/scary than the original version.

it would probably be easiest to get the network version, but the gamecube version is probably best if you care about it enough.
