Which Zelda game to play?

So, over January I'm going to have some time to play a game (on campus, besides the usual blockbuster titles). It's a long story, but boils down to this: I want to play a Zelda game over January, but I'm probably going to have time to play one. I'll only have my DS on me, so it's a matter of portable ones.

Here are the ones I'm trying to decide between: ALttP (I have it on four swords GBA), Spirit Tracks, or Minish Cap.

I'm leaning away from ALttP because I've heard it's so long, and I know I'll be playing it eventually some day. So which should I go for - Spirit Tracks or Minish Cap? A friend gave me a copy of Minish Cap a while ago, but I never got around to playing it much. Spirit Tracks is on sale at target this week for $25, and I really have been liking what I've been seeing from it..

So to those who have played both - WHAT DO I DO?!

EDIT: I said it down below, but I'll put it in here to make it easier on people - I have played Link's Awakening, it was my first (and favorite) Zelda game). I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it - but that's why it's not on my list! :p

Ummm, I played some of minish cap a while back and never really got hooked. And spirit tracks looks good. and at $25 I'd say you'd be silly not to buy it. Sooooo I would go for spirit tracks. :)

Get yourself a SNES Emulator and the Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past ROM.

Best, LoZ EVER.

You should probably play Phantom Hourglass before playing Spirit Tracks.

Isn't it a direct sequel or something?

You should probably edit that. Seeing as your on probation and emulators are technically pirating. And advising pirating is bad.

(Yes, I'm being a bit hypocritical because I use them myself but I'm just trying to get you out of possible trouble)

Plus he already has the game.

It's not Pirating if he already owns it ~.^

Link to the past, but it is VERY long. Minish cap is ok. It's short and has a wierd story but I liked it. I would say avoid the DS ones, but then again I have an unexplainable hatred for touch screens (which is how you do EVERYTHING in those games) so maybe im biased.

Minish cap is the best zelda game ever. Yes, I am aware of Ocarina of time and Majora's mask, but those aged horribly.

Noted and appreciated =)

The "Not Pirating if you already own it" detail may or may not still be in effect. But honestly, when was the last time anybody saw a working SNES and LoZ:LttP for sale anywhere? Or hell, even just a working SNES.

Zelda 2! ZELDA 2!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I love the freak of the series. You can still get that one for gameboy advance for about 15 bucks, I think. It was released as part of their classic game series. Is it pirating if Nintendo does it? I doubt all the people who worked on that game see a paycheck every time it gets rereleased.

Yea, have to agree on that. I wonder why companies don't just make their own emulators. I would pay 5 bucks a month to have a N64 and a Gameboy emulator.

There's nothing like being in class and playing pokemon on the computer while your everyone else is writing an essay

Wow, a lot of great responses in a short time. Thanks for the input!

That's what I'm thinking, it's a steal! But I feel like I've been getting a lot of games lately.. then again I guess it is the holiday rush so maybe it's okay...

It's very similar, and maybe sort of a sequel as far as Zeldas go, but I think it's pretty standalone. In fact, one of the only complaints about Spirit Tracks was that it was very similar to Phantom Hourglass in a few ways, but I figure that's no problem if I haven't played PH! Besides, that game had a few problems fixed in this one, and I can't find PH cheaper than the $25 deal Target has on ST this week.

Interesting. Since I have Minish Cap on me, I'll probably just have to give it a try eventually.

Finally, for all the people saying play ALttP - I will, but I don't think I'll have enough time to play it over January and finish it, and I don't want to have to put it down for a long time before going back to it again. Also, I was happy at least that I paid for it, so morally I'm good. Sometimes I prefer playing the port on GBA because it means I can play more comfortably on my bed; but in the end, who knows.

Speaking on the part of emulated games - which I love to do, so I endorse Link's Awakening if you've never played it - why is it that people ever get pursued on this when, like in this case, Nintendo's not even making any money off of it? Put simply, you can't steal what has no more value.

Flip a coin. Heads ALttP, Tails Spirit Tracks. I am a huge Zelda fan and really didn't like Minish cap. If possible, before you play Spirit Tracks play Phantom Hourglass and be prepared to be annoyed by the same dungeon. If you really don't care skip it and go straight to Spirit Tracks as it looks very promising. And personal bias: ALttP is my favorite Zelda so I highly recommend that.

QFT. Link's Awakening DX on GBC was my first - and favorite - Zelda game ever. So wonderful.

Unfortunately, I bought the Zelda Collector's Edition off eBay a while back, and I tried Zelda 2 but just couldn't get into it. Sorry. :p

Persistence, persistence my friend. I wore a callous on my thumb playing that sucker on the collectors edition disc. Ironically, it was the last thing I played before selling it to buy a Wii. I used to have a thing for crazy hard video games. I beat the original Ninja Gaiden.
