White DualShock3 Hits the U.S., Amid Sony Denials

A photo of a white DualShock 3 controller purchased in a Florida store has appeared, despite Sony's claims that no such controller exists in The States.

The image, sent to Joystiq sister site PS3 Fanboy [http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/white-dualshock-3-already-in-the-us-photo-says-yes-sony-says-n/] by a reader known simply as "Henry," offers solid evidence in the form of the controller itself alongside a receipt detailing the transaction.

Representatives from Sony however, say "We have no plans to release a white Dualshock 3."

While it is theoretically possible that the image is a cleverly constructed Photoshop job designed to troll the entirety of PS3 Fanboy's reading audience, I'm inclined to believe Henry, if only for the futility of crafting such a ruse.

Plus, given Sony's tendency to release a wide range of multicolored PlayStation peripherals as their console's lifespan runs down, it seems almost certain that a white DualShock 3 would eventually rear its ivory head.

Now the only question is why would anyone actually want a white DS 3. Not only does it clash horribly with Sony's console, it totally ruins the mysterious, dark color scheme employed by the system.

Take away the PS3's black coloring and what do you have? A curing cancer [http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/20/the-real-ps3-grill-cooks-food-delivers-lousy-gameplay/].

Hmm.
I didn't realise these were an oddity, considering my friend owns one.
How odd.

Well, I had a couple of Black and a couple of White Dual Shock 1's (the black ones are almost like hen's teeth now), it made sorting teams dead easy.
I'd buy a white DS3, it looks quite nice. Certainly nicer than that glossy plastic used on 260 controllers.

Does anyone else think that after the PS3 launch Sony's PR department has been banished to some distant corner of the offices Dilbert style?

Well I suppose they could have come from, you know, somewhere in the rest of the world, since everywhere else has them already. I don't see the big deal.

This is news? I own a white dualshock 3 and as for why anyone would want that colour? Because it looks awesome. Having trouble getting my hands on a second one though.... might have to settle for silver.

Because unlike the rest of the world, the US, for reasons which elude me, almost never gets alternate color consoles. You'll all sorts of color choices in Japan (especially for the DS), while here in the States, we get maybe one or two.

The multiple colour thing sometimes pops up in Australia as well. I guess living in the same region in terms of coding has benefits?

although the black ps3 matches my tv the biggest problem with black is it's a pain in the butt to keep clean of dust and of coarse finger prints even harder with wings lol if they sold different colors of systems in north america people would be happier but their tv's wouldn't match but you could paint it yourself , as for the while controller that looks cool

Wasn't the Wii supposed to have multiple colors? All I seem to see is the white one, but I remember seeing ones in Red, Blue, Pink, Green, etc before the release of the system..

The Folding@Home system that processes data for cancer research. I should start getting into that more so I can at least feel like I'm doing SOMETHING good with my PS3 rather than watch YouTube videos on it..

Might buy myself a red, white and silver to make playing with mates a lot easier.

Why do colour choices matter so much? I can understand if its clothing or shoes but we are talking about sedentary pieces of technology. It does the same thing no matter the colour...
Yeah but a red shirt does the same as a blue one, its the same with consoles.
All about the style ;)
