Who here misses The Escapist's Magazine format and old content?

I do miss the old written articles OP mentioned. I remember a great piece back in the day comparing Fallout 3 and Red Dead Redemption, about their different outlooks on nature vs. civilization. That was some quality content.

Honestly, I'm surprised those thinkpieces haven't come back. It seems like now would be an even better time for them, given the ever-increasing number of gamers who want serious discussion about art and media. I can only imagine an edition being published on Inside.

Also Unskippable. I still watch LRR stuff on their site, but Paul rarely makes it into videos these days (other than streams).

Regardless, I love it here, and I certainly don't plan on leaving anytime soon if ever.
Same. The forums are still good, and not noticeably slower to me (though I've not been checking threads several times a day, like I know some people do), and what content there is still entertains. I've been trying to work out if it's worth it to write up a proposal for an article on tabletop gaming, I don't know if Clouse or anyone else is still accepting work.

Sure, but time takes all things.

I miss the FFF (Final Fantasy Fanatic) on Myspace.
One of the first groups I was ever part of.
I still have fond memories of the GayFFF wars against the Pro-Anorexic groups and the fall out Cloud and rise of Kain.
Chris's hot sister invading every thread.
The Spam Wars of '06: The Pornbots Menace.
The Spam Wars of '06 PRT2: Revenge of the LongCat.
The Spam Wars of '07: Blank Page Was All The Rage.
The Spam Wars of '07 PRT2: The Red Ring of Dumb.
Kuni, Dre, etc.

But, all things come to an end.

Sometimes with a whimper, sometimes with a bang.

I remember when this place was a bustling home to top quality content. There was a new video to come to every day and it was all really good. Having so many content creators meant they could interact with each other and collaborate. We got the Rhymedown Spectacular and that column where Yahtzee, Bob, and at first James from Extra Credits then Jim after they left discussed something about video games. That was really the golden age of The Escapist.

But one by one they've all left, and Yahtzee is still holding things together as best he can. Without him this place really is gone, and they're barely hanging on with all the Twitch stuff and the Critical Miss team doing four comics a week. I've become so disenfranchised with The Escapist that I don't even watch the new Zero Punctuation most of the time these days, I come for the forums, and the Forum RP that I've been part of since 2012. If it wasn't for that I'd have gone ages ago.

What happened to that guy who made game music? His name escapes me now. I remember we both got a nuke in MW2 at roughly the same time, even though we never played together.

Last I heard he had tinnitus but that was years ago.

Yeah, it was nice having Jim's stuff and LRR's stuff and Miracle Of Sound and Lisa Foiles and Extra Credits and staff that would join in on silly stuff in the forums.

I do keep up with pretty much all their work elsewhere but it was good having it in one nice, friendly (at the time) hub.

You mean Miracle of Sound? Gav's been pretty constant (and gotten really good IMHO)in making music on his own youtube channel (literally just Miracle of Sound). He's also one of the trio on the Podquisition spinoff of the Jimquisition. He's doing alright for himself.
OT: Yeah, I kind of miss a lot of the content they had here. Only really come for Erin Dies Alone and the forums.

Alas the video content is centralised firmly in youtube. Because yay monopoly.

We all do, but The Escapist alienated and/or fired all their best content creators and staff and now the site is a mere shell of what it once was.

I honestly didn't think when I started this thread that it would end up being a wake for the Escapist...

The thing is, I think they could come back. If they switched their format back to editorials they'd certainly get much more traffic then they do now.

I also think they should leverage their old content better. They still own all the old Movie Bob, Unskipable, and Unfortgotten Realms, as well as many other shows. By actively linking to it they could have people come back and watch those shows. Perhaps find a demand.

Doomsday Arcade, Apocalypse Lane, Unforgotten Realms, LRR. But, eh ... things like this happen. It's hard in the age of adblocker to make money off advertising, and for ten dollars you get all of what Netflix. The exclusivity of geek content kind of got relegated to youtube. Which only really leaves articles and comics.

I knew things were on the decline when they could no longer afford to keep Loading Ready Run content running here. I recently watched There Will Be Brawl again and I remembered when we were spoiled for content.

Oh well, waiting on Yahtzee today.
