If we're talking non-plot-armor, non-bad-writing pure power, I'd say The Beyonder [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beyonder_(comics)]. Dude was basically omnipotent, at least when he first appeared. He was actually capable of destroying death.

Superman Prime, Sentry, Dr. Manhattan, Hulk, etc etc etc are all NOTHING compared to Franklin Richards.
Superman Prime's powers are things Franklin does subconsciously with a tiny fraction of his power....as a baby.

You know how Silver Surfer is the herald of Galactus?
Well, Galactus is the herald of Franklin Richards.


Thanos, Beyonder, Living Tribunal, The One Above All, etc etc aren't superheroes.

On the Marvel side, it's Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm. He's pretty much the collective author avatar of the whole Marvel team of writers and status quo enforcer. There's a fine YouTube channel dedicated to the Marvel Mythos (MarvelExplained) that deals with characters, universes and stories.

DC might be a bit more convoluted because of the different imprints. If you consider the whole DC Canon, which includes Vertigo, and if you define "Powerful" as "Last (Wo)man Standing after the smoke clears", the most powerful being in DC will be Death, Second of the Endless and older sister to Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams. Only when the last being in all the multiverse has breathed his/her last, only then will her job be done.

It's a question that could be argued endlessly, but a lot depends on the exact parameters of your question.

You say most powerful 'superhero'... so are we looking at all metahuman entities, or just the ones that have done the 'fights crime' shtick?

Also the term 'most powerful'.. do you mean the one who'd be the last one standing in an ultimate epic battle, or the one with the most potential to change the universe, or some other definition?

If it's all metahuman entities and last one standing I'd probably vote for Death of the Endless, but as I say it's a debate that will probably never be fully resolved.

Yeah, what I'm basically asking is who would be the last standing in a brawl to the death.

Sentry was pretty fuckin powerful. Though calling him a hero may be a bit of a stretch. That guy was bananas.

There's also the Phoenix, but I dunno if it's more of a force of nature/power than a hero.

Maybe Hulk (on a good day) or Franklin Richards. Maybe Supes, if I was to guess at DC's lineup.

Hero would probably be preboot Molecule Man. Him and the beyonder were fast enough that the Flash wouldn't matter.

The whole "Flash is zomginsane" is just from the view of someone who doesn't engage in the (possibly meaningless) discourse of 'comic-book character VS' on a regular basis.

Alternatively it doesn't matter, since a heroes power fluctuates depending on who is writing him. As a result they don't have any consistent powers levels. I suppose Dr. Manhatten could take Superman/Flash/Darkseid/Whoever. After all, the earths greatest man is no more threat then the earths greatest ant. Also, he did something most heroes have ever done. He's actually an engaging character, and a deconstruction of Nietzsche, which is frankly a more impressive feat then anything Superman ever did.

Galactus' power fluctuates based on how much he's eaten, but Beyonder is noted as being below The Living Tribunal and Eternity's tiers.

TL,DR :
The Flash can punch someone with enough force to wipe out all life on Earth 1,989,099,999,999,999,940,000 times.
The Flash can perceive the world in a way where even light appears frozen to him.
Through quantum tunnelling, he can phase through anything.
He can punch you a billion times a second.
He is a really good kisser.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I hate superheros. They are all more OP than the most OP FOTM build in any MMO ever made.
