Why are emos hated?

Hello fellow escapists!
A thought just struck me, why do most of us hate emos? They may be down and depressed. But why do we hate those who choose to wear black and dispise the conformus. They are probably the most hated social group, but are they so much worse than us others? I personally don't find them that irritating there are plenty of other people who are way worse...

Because they are whiny little brats that complain about how bad their lives are when other people have it so much worse... I went to school with a bunch of them and one said that all he got was a PS3 for christmas, and that was when they were $800.

They don't defend themselves. Even if they are a new group, or take from others, they just have decreased survival instincts. They are made so that even the ones at the very bottom of the food chain can make fun of them safely, so it's their own fault.

They gave black a stigma, they steal geek culture, they whine on Facebook, and aren't willing alot of the time to do anything about it. This is based on every emo person I have ever known or met. Oh and their music generally isn't too good in my opinion.

There are worse social groups. Those kids who dress up like werewolves and vampires, goths aren't too great, and the preps I've met haven't been to righteous. But these groups are few and far between, or just a bad encounter. Emos are very plentiful, and are just riding off the grunge coatails.

Because emo was once a decent genre of music when Weezer's Pinkerton album came out, but then it was jumped upon by vapid, attention-seeking teenagers who wear stupid clothes and have punchable faces, and who like to express their individuality in large groups of like-minded people.

I don't hate anyone for being down and depressed, but that is usually the last thing emos are nowadays. Those people are usually nice. The people who "choose to wear black and dispise the conformus" are usually attention-seeking loudmouths, at least in my experience. I don't hate them, but they are certainly very annoying. Chavs are a much more hated social group in my book.

I don't hate them at all, some emo people are pretty cool to talk and chill with. I would pick a emo girl to date above any other girl. Just most of people tend to think all emos cut themselves and complain, pretty dumb. Don't know many who actually take the time to become friends with some.

I don't hate emos, I just ignore them. Let other, more interested people hate them. One emo I've encountered is pretty cool though.

Here's what I think:
People dislike 'emos' because:
-their style is derived from goth
-their music isn't liked by a lot of non-emos
-they have the reputation of being suicidal
-the stereotype is they cry about their life which isn't entirely bad
-people find them strange because emo isn't the norm and many fear that which they don't know
-and 'emo' attracts a lot of tweens that are into Twilight and such

These aren't my thoughts on emos (I'm goth which apparently gets confused for emo), just reasons why people dislike the style (please no mod wrath)

EDIT: like someone said above me, Emo music like Weezer was good but then MCR and the Used kind of ruined it

Because the grand majority of them are just self-absorbed crybabies who wear womens' jeans and eyeliner, who write bad poetry and pretend to be non-conformist while at the same time dressing and acting exactly like all their friends. And it's not just them being 'down and depressed' about their middle-class suburban life, it's the incessant crying for attention and shoving their feelings in everyones' faces.

Because they're whiny middle class pricks that actually have a good life. They have nothing to complain about but they still manage. Just because you and your parents haven't got a perfect relationship doesn't mean you can cut yourself over it.

HA! I've never met any social group that conforms more. Unless you have the right band tees, cuts and hairstyle then you aren't considered emo.

Contrary to what you'd expect, emos and scene kids (basically the same thing, but scene kids wear the rainbow) are actually extremely happy. The fact that a lot of the ones I meet on my excursions into Bristol are stoned/drunk/on something probably has a lot to do with it, but on the whole they're lovely people, and also very accomodating to strangers. You can just turn up at Brandon hill or College Green (places in Bristol full of them) and have a great time with random people.

I only don't like the emos who think life is incredibly horrible and that they should kill themselves because they don't like their parents or something. My school however, is the place where people are more 'Goth' than emo, so I don't see many emo people to begin with.

I think most people don't like them because they think emo = whiny teenagers who cut themselves. As that is incredibly counterproductive and society happens to hate stuff like that, it is behavioral instict to dislike the popular concept of them.
