Why bring babies to a zoo?

You go to a zoo to observe various exotic and in some instances rare animals. Now why is it many people bring their babies?

I know some people bring them because they probably can't dump them on someone else but everytime I've ever been to ANY zoo, there's waaaay to many people to make me think that's the case.

The problem with bringing babies is they're to young to understand or appreciate most things in life, let a lone animals and all they do is scream, cry or whatever and thus care away the animals, with some very rare examples I barely get to see as a result such as tigers and of course if the young animals get scared and hide, the adults will follow them, naturally.

So all we get is a loud sounding zoo full of near-bare enclosures.

Hell, the tigers have to eat at some point.
What?
Like you weren't thinking that.

One other reason could be that most people don't really live near zoos, and so can't find a babysitter. Or maybe they're only going because that child saw a cool animal on TV, was enamored with it, and the parents decided to take the kid to see the animal up close.

Exactly. The people bring babies as a failsafe. If the lions, tigers and bears [small](Oh my!)[/small] get loose, just chuck the baby over your shoulder as bait.

Maybe people need to just make sure their baby is around? I mean what, just leave them in the car for the whole trip?
I already mentioned that people take them because they can't dump them but I doubt that for many since some time's theres TOO MANY babies.

Only a child could watch TV and want to see it in real life, and children can communicate IE understand SHUT UP!

There should be a baby-check right next to the coat check. You drop off the kid, they're heavily sedated and placed into comfy little cubby-holes, and you get to enjoy the zoo without your spawn making things a nightmare for everyone involved.

My niece loved animals from a very young age. Only way to keep her attention was to take her to a fucking zoo. And this was before the age of 1.

I have a baby and I feel that just taking a walk will have the same effect. Babies are dumb as hell and your right, they don't have the capacity yet to understand the difference between a monkey and a rhino. They mostly just want to eat things.

How do you know they don't appreciate it? Proof or GTFO.

That's good planning, but I was thinking more of noontime entertainment or something.
Zoos can get pretty boring without some kind of event.

I know one of my friends went to the zoo because he saw something on otters and wanted to watch them up close...and I can't imagine he's the only one who's ever done that.
As for your second point, you were talking about babies, I used "child" as another word for baby.

Yeah, bringing them anywhere is pointless.

Same with bringing anyone under 14-16 to a really expensive vacation. What the hell do they need it for? They will just forget the whole thing anyway. At least if they have hit puberty it might help build character or something.

You're telling me a baby that screams out and scares away the rare tiger or rhino is understanding and appreciating?

What's strange is I once saw a woman holding her baby over a cage line in front of the real cage holding the carnivore... Micheal Jackson anyone?

Babies make great emergency rations.
OT: People like their children. They enjoy coming home to their kids and spending time with them. They don't come home from working all week to dump them off on some other family and go have fun with themselves and their older kids.

Well, I think they have a slower metabolism, so I wasn't as worried about them.
Besides, they seem somewhat...dull when compared to tigers.
At least, they do to me...

Why bring anything to a zoo?
I hate zoos, they smell, are filled with obese tourists, everything is overpriced and the animals are more annoying to me than endearing.

But then I suppose I'm kind of evil.
