This is sorta a rant, I love how the PSP auto saves when you turn it off so when you turn it back on you keep the place, the problem is I'm a clumsy mother fucker and I drop my PSP at least 4 times a day. I just lost 12 hours of gameplay data on persona 3, its going to be a ***** to level back up and beat all of those bosses, so why don't all games have auto save? It sure as hell would help us out

I kind of like save points. They're really useful for me, esspecially in RPGs, because it gives me a clear goal for that particular play session. I can be all like "I'll just go till the next save point". I kinda like em. As for why they can't be in all games? I dunno. :/

I prefer the "pause the game and save" system, autosaves are nice, but having a good dependable save slot is the best.

A friend of mine actually denounced Mass Effect because it didn't autosave enough, which is just kind of cunty if you ask me, which you didn't.

Some games don't want you to be able to save whenever. Not being able to save whenever adds an extra element of difficulty to the game.

I kind of have a personal vendetta against auto saves. They're great in some games, but I will always hate Resident Evil 5 for switching to auto saves instead of typewriters. Stupid reason, I know, but I loved the typewriter save system.

[sub][sub]I also hate Resident Evil 5 for taking away the merchant, but that's a different story...[/sub][/sub]

There's a lot of good points so far. I'd like to add fuck around value. If your actions have no consequences, you feel free to fuck around, but if there's an autosave, you'll play it a bit more safe, and have less fun because of it.
I think for a linear game, autosave is a good idea, but for an RPG or a open-world sandbox, letting the player have the power to save is better.
(unless your game is buggy enough to make your console crash, in which case, lots of autosaves are appreciated. I'm looking at you, SR2)

Metroid Prime.

If you've played the game, nothing more needs to be said. If you haven't... go play it.

I think all games should have an autosave feature. Turn it on or off if you like, but there's no real reason not to have one available. That is, as long as the autosave and a regular save are different files. I don't really play console much outside of sports games, so I don't really think about how it would work for them...

Because developers get lazy, they put in one save system and then noone thinks about it again, all games should have critical point auto save and save/load menu options, it's 2000 and fucking 11 this shit should go without saying.

So demand better quality in games and force the developers to really polish their games.

I like the "save points with suspended save" -system. You can only save at specific locations, but if you ned to stop playing and there isn't a savepoint nearby, you can create a suspended save. They work like normal saves, except that the save is deleted when you load it. This lets you continue where you left off, but you can't load from there multiple times, like from a regular save. Of course, if you accidentally turn off the console without remembering to save (or drop the console) you'll still lose progress.

(Btw. 12 hours? Really? Does the game really expect you to go on for that long without saving?)
