Why can't you quicksave in real life?

So lately I've been discovering a worrying new development in my inability to determine between fantasy and reality. Whenever I do something particularly stupid, for a few seconds I genuinely think 'Oh, it's ok, I'll just go back to my last save.'

I'm in the dubiously fortunate situation of being surrounded by entirely normal, socially competent and well-adjusted people (none of whom play computer games), so when I tell them things like this they look at me like I'm so insane I might murder them in their beds. Sometimes I'd just love someone to say 'that's nothing, whenever I finish doing something I mentally calculate how many experience points I've just earned' or 'you think you're crazy - every time I speak to someone I visualise a dialogue wheel and fantasize about renegade interrupts...'

Does anyone else do this? Own up to the crazy - I'm not judging (much)

Where the hell did you get that?! It was a choice between quicksaves and multiple orgasms and because girl-gamers do not exist, she made the choice for the both of them... clearly...(!)

OT: Fairly sure we can quicksave... just that we don't have a quick-load function...

I use Adobe Flash a lot, and a very important hotkey for animating in that is Ctrl-Z, which is undo for anyone not aware. When I do something wrong in real life I feel myself attempt to Ctrl-Z my way back a step, but then I realise this world is much more annoying and stuff like that doesn't fly.

The hotkey is just incredibly hard to find. One guy, a long, long time ago is said to have figured it out but then he didn't tell anyone.

Because you're playing on hard mode. You need to play on easy mode to quick-save. The only problem being is that you need to restart your game to choose your difficulty.

Video games invade my dreams. I mean literally, if I'm really enjoying a game, I will think about it so much that the characters and the game itself will appear in my dreams. I've played Fallout 3, Saints Row 2, and Mass Effect 2 and 3 in my head while SLEEPING!

I found this funnier than i should have ... I'm going to hell :(.

OT : once i was playing world of warcraft for about 12 hours . I went outside to have i smoke and i saw a girl that looked like a bloodelf, i wanted to press "2" to shoot a lightingbolt at her . My figure moved . True story .

I do also see dialogue bubble appear over some peoples heads when they speak . Like when i'm having a discussion with my boss at work . I wouldn't admitto that in real life though.

I've totally done that with Minecraft, Freelancer and various FPS games. Trippy stuff gaming dreams.

You know I tried the Minecraft demo on 360 and OMG that is such an addictively fun game. I want to get it so bad, but I can't afford it right now.

I can see how that could easily get into your dreams. Then be disappointed when you wake up and all the progress you thought you had made on that giant castle was just a dream.

All the damn time when I wake up in the morning. "Screw it," I tell myself, "I'll just quick save and reload when I've had a couple more hours." I put it down to my brain still booting up.

I think Christianity has the answer here. Jesus nailed respawning, so clearly he can bring us other game features. :p

How do you know that we can't quicksave, but don't remember because we quickload to before a mistake so have no idea we saved and reloaded to regret and re-do?

Sometimes in dreams if I get trapped in a situation or something goes wrong I'll think I can load / reset / exit the program. It's not necessarily in the context of a videogame, so there's some logical doublethink going on with that, but I'd speculate it has to do with accessing the same suspension of disbelief for dream scenarios as exists for compelling videogames... *shrug*

Whenever I have an assignment to do I'm like "I'll just save here and continue to play video games then reload when it's 12 at night". I think we all know where that leads to.
