Now i was thinking, why in the world did Haze fail? I mean, it had a lot more time to develop than Resistance, and Resistance rocked. It came from a great developer, I mean, they made Golden eye!!! Their Gimmick was pretty good, taking drugs makes you fast and stronger, and makes your shot better, It's a good idea if you ask me...So what the hell? What happened to it?

Other than ripping off a good part of the story from the Alien series and then making it less interesting?

You lost the drug after the first few levels.
AI was terrible.
Voice acting was terrible.
Uninspired guns.
Boring story.

And your allies repeated everything over and over.
"Remember your promise to Merino!"
"Remember your promise to Merino!"
"Remember your promise to Merino!"
"Remember your promise to Merino!"
"Remember your promise to Merino!"

Damn it...

Now, Resistance was good cause it had kickass guns, decent AI, an interesting story, and a snow level. I'm a sucker for snow levels in any game (Halo, Fable, Hitman... Gears of War 2's going to have one also, happy days...) Haze had a cheesy story and was nothing more than a samey shooter. Long development time does not equal good game.

I had to play Haze because I needed information from it to write a thesis paper about the importance of video games, and the statements they make about culture, philosophy, etc. (I needed the whole "corporation using drugs to control soldiers" thing). I still have "Remember your promise to Merino!" stuck in my head. Gah.

Haze failed for a lot of reasons.
It was uninspired and bland sure, but that's just the start.
Shooters in general are uninspired, but since gunplay is generally fun anyway that can't be enough.
It TRIED to have a hook, and the hook didn't work, was executed well and felt tacked on. That is a much larger point against it than simply not having one at all. Instead of merely lacking something, it had a glaring error on screen all the time.

It also came out less than three weeks before MGS4. That's going to eat up its' sales pretty bad. Why pick up a bland shooter, or even somewhat interesting shooter when the first really top tier, super-exciting PS3 game drops in a couple weeks?
