Why did The Force Unleashed have to suck?

I still dont understand how they could have screwed the pooch so hard. I can let the story go on account of Lucas' disease. But why the gameplay? There were more than enough brawlers/ fighting games to draw a combat system from. The length of most of the levels was embarrisingly short, as was the number of levels(Come on, re-treading old levels... thats a ***** move). I admit that a good job was done on the force powers and the deformations in the environment was cool too. However they had to shit all over the most hyped part of the game, destroying a star destroyer. But instead they make you have to take on endless tie fighters while bringing it down... GOD DAMN that pissed me off. Anyway what are your thoughts?

I died so many times bringing down that star destroyer...not form the ties but from glitches. falling backwards off the ledge that your not supposed to be able to fall off of.. usually by uncontrolable Knockback and random bounces wedging me into invisible walls. That Level was ABSOLUTE TRASH. With that being said. The button combos well no *edit.. the AERIAL combos where obscenely hard to pull off. Some of the hidden force points where just...WHY?!?! And did you do any of the DLC?? lmao. The jedi temple is a joke, for 15 dollars you get a few skins and outfits >.> only one of which is cool. WHICH i also may add you can't use on your regular saved game....and no joke about a 20 minute level AT BEST. God damn You George Lucas. You lucked out the first time. admit it so we stop waiting for something amazing. It;s only been like 30 years....

I think of it as Spielberg disease, only cause I first noticed it with him. Most noticeable in bands, especially the ones built on teenage angst. It is like their heart is just not in it anymore (which it is not) after they get famous and make piles of money big enough to swim in.

[Edit: you got in an edit before I posted, but I didn't want to erase this so blah! Or something.]Also 30 years - 1977 was when Star Wars: A New Hope was released. Watch the movies carefully the whole "He had the first three episodes already planed out" Is bullshit unless they meant he sorta maybe had a rough idea, but settled on the last three. There are so many inconstancies, even when he was able to view the source material and make changes so the first three movies matched up to the last three.

That said, I actually enjoyed The Force Unleashed. I had a lot of fun with the force powers, the little platforming was enough to be a challenge, but not enough to get old (unless you are OCD and have to get every last little thing completed). True the Star Destroyer annoyed the crap out of me. Until I figured out that force lightning worked like a charm on the Tie Fighters. The one thing that really annoyed me is that is seemed to suffer a bit from Gears of War syndrome. Were the game appears to have been slated to be longer, but was cut short. Leaving you wondering from time to time if you missed some part of the story.

Hey maybe I have just lowered my standards to much as great games get harder and harder to come by. Then again who has $100 million to invest in a game that is likely only going to return half that (or less, much less). Some thing has to be cut, they cannot do everything in the game and still keep it profitable, and if it is not profitable then why make it? I would rather the game be a little short then have the major failings be in other areas.

Hint: They didn't actually put effort into it.

Why would they? Everyone would buy it regardless.

I thought it was okay, it would be better if they shared their three-headed monster physics engine with other developers.

It would be a good game if it wasnt a Star Wars game and didnt suck. They just need to stop mutilating the Star Wars saga and ESPECIALLY stop with the Indiana Jones saga. Aside: did anyone else hear this, but Shia Le(what the fuck ever) is going to play the next Indiana Jones. It's going to suck worse then Crystal Skull. I mean seriously, stop taking something good and making it into shit. In my opinion George Lucas needs to either die, or leave the country/planet.

The only thing that really killed it for me was the completely linear story, and the ridiculous bugs that plagued it.

My friend came over to play it, played it for 20 minutes, and in 20 minutes, the game crashed.

His response; "Fuck this noise" before turning the game off.

Force Unleashed didn't suck for one reason: The "Worst Day Shift Manager Ever" Achievement.
Overall, I found the game to be solidly middle of the road, not outright awful.

I'm told that the story was ok, but the gameplay sucked a barrel of eggs. If that's so, I'll try it out when it's on sale or something.

It had so much promise... so much potential... and it was average at best. I feel as if some parts of the game (or the whole game itself) had been rushed. It could have been great but was destroyed. That star destroyer part made me break 2 controllers and my wall.

I love how it ruined the story.

So if Leia was on the Death Star as it was being built why didn't Darth Vadar just go "HAI I REMEMBER YOU" when they met in the fourth movie?

Stormtroopers that can eat multiple lightsaber hits are made of failure.

So lightsabers melt through solid steel doors, but the average trooper requires an old-fashioned beatdown to dispatch? Lame.

In a game with lightsabers I want to be able to just carve through legions of troopers effortlessly. I know they wanted to focus on the force powers, but the game was just stupid.

WHAT!!
I admit that I liked Indy 4 but making Shia the main character is just waaayyyy to far.
If they want Shia to be the main character in an action movie involving the supernatural how about this:
"Mark (Shia) has just moved to a new high school. Having been popular in his last school Mark is desperate to regain the attention that he used to get. Upon learning that all he has to do to be popular is to transport some boxes across town he leaps to the oportunity. But Mark soon learns that the boxes contain alien fishes and then learns that the popular kids are all part of a secret Chthulu cult and Mark has to team up with the less popular kids in order to defeat them."
There Lucas, how about that for an action movie involving the supernatural.

the only part of the game that really sucked is all the idiotic Star Wars fanboys that complain about EVERYTHING George Lucas has done simply because it's the cool thing to do. most of them come up with some of the weakest and dumbest arguments why the movie/game sucked and most of comes down to "it was different than i wanted, i'm going to whine and cry cause when i do my mom gets me something else"

the game itself was a lot of fun, there were some controlling annoyances with it, but frankly what game doesn't have that? it wasn't the best thing since sliced bread but it was a lot of fun

It was made in house by Lucasarts which means they didn't get a good developer to do it, and they released it unfinished. I still think it's a pretty good game, but it's not nearly as good as it could have been.

I actually liked it. I didn't run into any of the glitches everyone goes on about, and I got through the part with the Star Destroyer no problem. Overall, it was a fun, if flawed game to me.

Also: Starkiller + Sith Robes + Red Saber = badass incarnate.
