Why do people always assume that we're the worst things out there?

I know that mankind has done some bad stuff in history, but when one considers evolution, you have to think that there must be species out there that are willing to do worse.

We're not.

Nature is just as sick and twisted as humanity is. We just never hear David Attenborough talk about it.

I don't just mean on our world, though. In a lot of discussions about alien life, I see people using the same quote about them not visiting us because 'Humans are just the worst'!

People like to think that whatever possible alien life is out there is automatically better and smarter than we are. It's no different than religous people wanting to be lead down a better path by something greater then they are.

If you look at other animals try to convert what they do to human terms. It's pretty cruel and terrible.

Out there? You mean aliens? Nobody can say what they are like.

If we are to look on this planet, we are the only species that can understand ideas of good or bad to any real degree (maybe you could argue that certain animals in a sorta kinda way). We are the worst because we are the only things known that can be actively and intentionally bad.

Dolphins engage in gang rape for weeks at a time, and there have been several cases where male ducks have committed oral rape of their dead rivalshttps://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:AY__GucvUr0J:www.chm.bris.ac.uk/sillymolecules/papers/duck.pdf+&hl=en&gl=uk&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESgDLcTpycP8kdSqUndj8CGUOyX3SIz3hmLmAb3VfvuP06C15vPWiFsMyBhd0bpts4cjb4CSXolny0gdOE5AoQzdgKwSi6CwB5Qzd8sQTfzqZi3xt1jik6-4zARZpfBDyWYkIOHo&sig=AHIEtbSXTjwOZvzn8Ue45VoTJ0fipGveog

Of all the other species we have created the most complex society & should have implemented the most protections for individuals & our environment. We haven't managed this entirely, which is pretty depressing...

Are humans terrible at a base level? No.
I think we are!

There are plenty of examples of people fucking over others to get ahead or something extra for themselves. Then there is our constant wars and crime (rape, child abuse, animal abuse, murder etc).

Then there is our just plain bitchiness, making snide comments or down right attacking people (just look at any internet forum or XBL). Couples cheating on each other, friends lying to each other.

Billionaires living in total opulence while billions die of unclean water/starvation.

Our past is a bloody, violent and cruel one!

On topic. ... 'cos there is? I mean, if you read some of the stories from the news about what people have done, it's disgusting! A woman convinced a little girl to hang herself 'cos her daughter and this girl had a falling out, any school shooting, 2 world wars, the Holocaust, slavery.... even unintentional things, a coach containing a load of kids coming back from skiing crashed killing all but 2 (I think). If you find THE worst thing EVER then there is always a different flavor of worse out there.

Yeah, I'm not much of a people lover ... I know there are kind, warm and caring people out there, all of whom are massively under appreciated and go unrecognized.

Like, don't you think it's fucking stupid people get knighted for "there services to X", where X is something they that benefits them and nobody else (Olympians, musicians etc) but if you watch "the secret millionaire" you constantly see people getting paid nothing (sometimes even pay out of there own pocket) to provide much needed help to others, like the homeless or the ill.

There is my rant over, sorry.
