Why do people hate the Wii? Simple: Group-think meets ZP fanboys and "hardcore" gamers. Not much more to it than that.
Of course, it's so simple! I'll go get one right now!

Wait, wait... Where are all my good games? Where's God Hand? Where's Devil May Cry? What happened to my Shadow of the Colossus, Zone of the Enders and Ratchet and Clank? Where are the original (read: new) Konami, Capcom, and Insomniac titles? And where's my controller that actually does what I tell it to? Why does my boxer keep throwing hooks when I, a REAL LIFE martial artist, keep throwing uppercuts? Why must I play Metal Slug with the Wii controls, when the game was obviously designed for the "archaic" D-pad and button combination?

Compared to the other next-gen systems, the Wii isn't doing that bad. Compared with a GOOD last-gen system, however (like the PS2), the flaws with the system are immediately obvious.

Small library of quality titles+ controls that are fiddly+ lack of quality new IPs on the market= Not much.

As I've said, the only thing I like about the Wii right now is Virtual Console, but even that is reliant on reaching a younger fanbase, one that hasn't played the games and doesn't mind possibly paying more money for digital content than the (secondhand) price of the original carts. Also, some VC titles shouldn't even be ON there. Mario 3 and Mario World have had several ports already. Same goes for Sonic 1 and 2.

They consider it:

-Childish
-Casual
-Too Much Excercise

Also it's different to what normal gaming is "supposed" to be like (as in with the motion controls). Strangely enough I disagree and really like the Wii.

My younger brother's had a wii for about two years nowand at first I kind of like it but, the fun soon faded away. The first frustration was the annoyingly shit remote motion sensor control thing.
Another thing I hate about it is the sheer lack of intersting games. My brother has loads of games for the Wii butso far only one interests me, Brawl (Which I think is much better than Melee).

So Nintendo two years hardly anything good, and the slightly good games are all things we've seen before (Zelda, Metroid, Mario and Smash Bros.), so until you start bringing good stuff out I'm gonna stick with my 360 and it's horrible new dashboard.

I don't like the Wii because people say that it is so innovative but I've seen the exact kind of thing almost 20 years ago.

Also there are too many bad games for the Wii.

1. It's full of terrible cash-ins and ports of 360 games (sometimes cash-ins, without the graphics)
2. I don't like the Wiimote
3. It costs more than a 360 now (!!??)
4. The Graphics are worse (even with the component cable it looks bad)
5. There are 101 different attachments to it
6. Too many peripherals and junk
7. The controller isn't accurate
8. The classic games are either rubbish or I already own them with a superior controller.
9. The best games I play with the GC controller. That's just sad, considering it seems a step in the past.
10. The games are nowhere near as good as the average 360 game, but cost something close.

Well most of the complaints seem to be that the graphics suck or that they don't like the controls. This suports my saftey argument rather well. Bun instead of just reposing one of my other posts I made I think I'll make some counter points to other posters comments.

Well I would think having a way to use more controllers without needing to buy a new controller every time would be a plus. It also means you can have wireless guitar Hero which you can't do with the 360 because of Microsoft proprietary-ism.

I think its odd that you call the GC controller a step in the past, its not much of a step foreword to the Xbox Controller,OMG one more button! It's the same controller layout as the PS2, and PS3, and X-box so how can you call it out dated? Besides, Nintendo has a always been a beacon of good controller design, and controller design to come.

Well I went to IGN to check out releases, and I'll agree with you ,to an extent but ,the 360 is hardly pure as driven snow when it comes to good vs bad games. The PS2 had ten fold the number of bad games to good, but it never turned anyone away from it, and the X-box hardly swelled with amazement.

As opposed to Xbox developers for instance, they don't make games JUST for money...
Your statement is such a lie, it nearly killed me. Out of curiosity I went to recent 360 releases and guess what...

Winter Sports 2: The Next Challenge, Rise of the Argonauts, Meteos Wars, Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon, PowerUp Forever, Secret Service, Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, Monopoly, Sonic Unleashed, Tomb Raider Underworld, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, Prince of Persia, History -- Civil War: Secret Missions, Last Remnant, Disney Sing It
Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore 2, Bolt, NPPL: Championship Paintball 2009, Kingdom for Keflings, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Lips, Tomb Raider Underworld, Left 4 Dead, Naruto: The Broken Bond, Need for Speed Undercover, Shaun White Snowboarding, Quantum of Solace, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (Kollector's Edition)

Everything in the list looks Utterly soulless with the exception of Left 4 dead, but its out for everything else. wich is a rater soulless thing to do. The fact is, you cant say the 360 isn't about making money, because it is. its why developers do what they do. they wouldn't have made Halo 3 (which I want to remind you is technically marathon 5) If it wasn't going to make them an embarrassing about of money. and seance no game studio has released an epically wonderful game for free (except Mugen)I'm going to say ALL games where made for money, not because they love their fan base.

So does your mother, but I don't have a illogical hatred towards her. Shes just not all that good at it.

I'd like to point out that I don't hate any of the consoles, except for the PS2 and that has more to do with a hatred of Sony, not of the system. Their is no solid argument for why the 360 is better than the Wii their just different, and those differences make them unique, if you love game, you should be able to step back and look at them subjectively and think about why YOU hate a game, why YOU like a game. and in that seance I say this is one of the best times to be a gamer. With brilliant mainstream games, like Fallout 3 and interesting stylized games Like Sam & Max is a good time to be a gamer, so enjoy yourself. Try something new, you may find something you like. Because Lets remember part of beeing a gamer is to have fun, not to instill hated.

Just because a gaming system sold a lot doesn't make it good, games are what generate the money really, not the system by it's self.

I bought a Wii, played The Godfather and Resident Evil 4... put it away and then I gave it to my sisters.

Compared to about 70-90 games I bought for the Xbox 360, the Wii really hasn't generated that much money from me for Nintento compared to Microsoft.

Very true. I bought a Wii as well, but after a while I got really disappointed with the lack of cool games. Of course there are some, but most Wii titles just didn't appeal to me at all, while I kept missing out on great games on the Xbox 360 / PS3. So in the end I did something I've never done before, I switched consoles mid-generation. I bought an Xbox 360, and now, some months and a number of awesome games later, I can say I don't regret it one bit. I still love Nintendo though, with their long history of wonderful games how could I not. I really hope they'll get it right again next console generation, and don't put so much emphasis anymore on 'fun for your aunt' games.

People hate the Wii for the same reasons people hate Twilight.

... That and playing for what fans want is a really bad idea, as strange as that may seem.

Okay, name ten that don't have Zelda or Mario in the title. Prove me wrong. :)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
No More Heroes
Okami
Metroid Prime 3
LostWinds
Boom Blox
De Blob
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
Zack & Wiki
Lego Indiana Jones

All of these I either have or have played, and love. None of them have Mario or Zelda in the title. I'd also like to point out Metroid Prime 1 & 2 and Pikmin being rereleased for Wii using the Wiimote, the Wii's back-catalogue of Gamecube and Virtual console games, Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy, which are both much fun, the upcoming Kirby game for the Wii, Conduit and Manhunt, about which I'm rather excited, etc etc.

Whether you personally enjoy these games or not is moot. The fact of the matter is that many others do enjoy them. I don't like GTA or Halo, do I have the gall to deny that they're good games just because they don't appeal to me?
Metroid Prime and Wario are established franchises and Lego Indiana Jones is multi-platform. It's actually better on the other systems.

I like the wii personally all consoles really have their perksm Ps3 with its free internet and a good game every so often, 360 with its AWSOME exclusives and brilliant internet at a fee, and the wii with its unique control system, the problem is that their still milking the really old gaming stars like mario and sonic, what they really need to do is to put their heads together for a couple of months and think of a new nintendo star, either that or produce another pokemon game and bring it out on the wii to make me happy =)

Neither of which are valid reasons why the Wii isn't a good platform.

No, but the part where it's just a gamecube with a gimmicky control scheme based off the failed Sega Power Glove is. The Wii isn't next gen. Sure, it has some good games, but it doesn't have as many as the other consoles and it isn't anywhere near as technologically advanced as the 360 or the PS3.

I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one who considers hardcore gaming a PC thing... I mean anyone can pick up and play a consul, making it somewhat less hardcore. Of course the Wii is even more softcore then other consuls. But its fun in a have your mates round and get drunk kinda-way.

Also, to add to list of good games that arnt Nintendo milkings, Excite Truck and DBZ Budakai 2/3 (Though its down to personal taste that one, I like fighting games + DBZ, so its fun)

I'll admit, my Wii gets very little play time, especially with no internet connection for it, which means I cant play mario kart or ssbb online, but I do tinker with it now and then, and I find it genuinly fun. Oppose to playing on my friend's 360, where we get yelled at on xboxlive by whatever hyperactive kiddies happen to think they're cool cause they can teamkill.

Nintendo does enjoy going after your wallet, and they're not shy about it.

Remember Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles?

It's a GameCube game, but if you want to get the most out of it, such as effective inventory management and special minigames, you need to have a Nintendo GBA and a link cable.

Oh, and it's a co-op game, so you're barely getting anything out of it unless you play with your friends. Each one of your friends needs a Nintendo GBA and link cable as well.

Oh, and if you want to get the most most out of it, you'll need to buy the Nintendo e-Card Reader [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_e-Reader] and collectible trading cards to swipe.

By the time you have the necessary hardware for a four player game (assuming you already had a Gamecube and standard controllers) you've paid over $500 ($100 per GBA, $20 per link cable, ?$ for e-Reader, ?$ for cards, ect).
No I have to call you out on this. If you owned a Gamecube, you owned a GBA, and you owned a link cable, and your LYING if you say otherwise. I have never met a Gamecube owner who didn't have those before he brought his Gamecube, I have to call exaggeration on that.

I think PA said it best

http://www.penny-arcade.com/2003/08/22/ffcc/

I'm trying to find the comic strip, ugh Archive Trawl
I owned a Gamecube and GBA Player, but my sister owned a link cable that I NEVER used (that I can remember). Besides, Penny Arcade were right about something? No way... Get outta town! After all, it's not like they'd ever make extremely obvious statements about games and then let their fans jump all over them, is it?

Also, what's up with that guy that said he hates the PS2? How can you hate the game system with probably the biggest library of quality games of any game system ever created? I mean, the only system I see competing with it right now (for mastery of the universe) is the Snes. VC, Wiiware, PSN Store and Xbox Live just don't have big enough libraries to compete with the gigantic PS2 library.

First of all, it stopped being "next gen" when we moved into the current generation of console gaming, which does include the Wii unless you're an elitist prick who can't look beyond the technical specifications of a console.
Secondly, specs and control schemes do not a good system make. Belittling the Wii based on its technical capabilities is moot, as is praising it for the Wiimote. Ultimately, it's the games that matter. So I'm saying that no, the part where the Wii is "just a gamecube with a gimmicky control scheme based off the failed Sega Power Glove" is not a valid reason to dislike the console.
Which brings me to my third point: I can rattle off a list of "good" Wii games (that is, games which A) appeal to me and B) are exclusive to the Wii) that is longer than an equivalent list for PS3 and 360 combined. Hell, even being nice and allowing multiplat games that don't find their way to Wii or PC (so games only available on either 360 or PS3), the first list wins out. That's not counting Virtual Console or the Wii's back-catalogue of Gamecube games, by the way, although it is counting WiiWare. And this is not because I haven't been paying attention to the other consoles' releases. I'd very much like a PS3.
What's the point of this? To show you how very subjective gaming is. I don't care if you don't like a single game on the Wii, the fact of the matter is that it has plenty of games that people who are not you enjoy. Get over it.

And now, my final point, before I leave this thread, because I don't want to get embroiled in a flame war: What the hell happened to people just playing games for the hell of it? Why do they insist on hating something that other people enjoy? I find it, quite frankly, pathetic.

True dat. That's why I don't even have a next-gen system (simmer down, Wii fanboys, my sister owns a Wii and I've played it, so I know what I'm talking about.) I'll pick up a system when I see some good games on them. Right now Castle Crashers, No More Heroes, Bioshock and Madworld are about the only games that look good to me.

Besides, the PS2 also has tons of collections, too. Metal Slug, Taito Legends 1 and 2, Capcom Classics, Street Fighter Anniversary (and Alpha), KoF Orochi Saga... And let's not even get into all the Essentials collections!

I'm been going into Metal Slug withdrawal since my sister sold our PS2...

As for the Wii itself, it still doesn't have the strong third-party support it needs. Also, I'd just like to say that the Wii controller can go throw itself a party. New Testament Judas style.

Man, I hate that thing. It just doesn't seem to WORK right. I mean, it was good for Baseball, but that's about it.

That "plus" would not actually need one. I do NOT need a dildo attachment for my wii, I don't want one, and there isn't really any point in me having different pieces for maybe one or two games. also you just seemed to skim over my 9 other VALID points. Don't be such a fanboy. With my Xbox there is the headset and the controller. The PS3 has the controller and the headset maybe, and the PC has the KB the Mouse and a headset. You don't need anything else to play them to their full potential.
The wii's library is essentially tiny, if you filter out all the crap games.
