Why I don't like it is this...

It is only a slightly above average game (if even that high). So I just don't understand the cult like following of it. And that following is usually 16 year olds... nothing wrong with being 16, but I am much older than that so the maturity level you generally find in that game is pretty low. I have plenty of online friends and there is a small group who play almost nothing but Halo... I don't get it, it's not that good, try something else. The Halo fanboys need to move on to something else... anything else. Perhaps MW2.
It is a shame, really, when these "fanboys" just play one game. One reason towards hatred towards Halo is due to this youthful fanbase (of which a majority should not even own the game due to age restrictions). However, if they move to another, more popular game, I am sure that the game will become hated as much as this.

The thing that made me hate the entire series is constantly getting shoved in your face that they're the best games 'evur'.

Halo has never really innovated anything.
It did 2 things, rebounding health(which Wolverine: Adamantium Rage already did), and hotkey grenades.

Everything it did was already done before. The multiplayer is nothing new, the graphics aren't great etc.

But mostly, i hate Halo because it appeals to console, and only console gamers.
The entire Halo series is praised by console standards. Halo 1 through 3 are mediocre shooters, but the only reason people think they're good is because most of them never played brilliant games like Half-Life. Even Halo Wars, just a mediocre RTS we all played years ago on the PC. But because it's on a console, it's instantly awesome.

I'd bet the company that made Halo (Bungie, I think?) also sells Halo t-shirts, Halo beanbag chairs, Halo toothbrushes, Halo combs, Halo underwear, Halo bedsheets, Halo condoms, and Halo toilet paper.
Mmm...massive commercialization.
They actually do sell shirts, hats, and miscellaneous accessories such as keychains and bumper stickers. Look up any reasonably successful developer and they likely have an online store with those sorts of products.

As I was saying though, there's plenty of Halo to discuss.

And no one is forcing you to even care or participate.

The best PC shooters are better, as a rule of thumb.

You stated your opinion as if it was a fact =p
All I'm saying is that there is no need to be so declarative about your opinion, that makes it sound like a fact.

Should I stick an arbitrary, annoying 'IMO' at the end of each sentence then?

I LOVE Halo 1, I liked Halo 2, I HATE Halo 3.

Halo 1 was good. It had a good mystery-SciFi story mix. Fun times, good action, interesting people. It attracted a large fan base. Understandable.

Halo 2 was a forced sequel in my book. It was good, but didn't live up to the hype. Better mechanics and graphics made it worth the buck. Fan base grew.

Halo 3. It did NOTHING. Slightly improved shaders, did they even add a new gun? The story sucked balls, the voice actors changed, and the ONLY thing that made it ANY good is the Forge and the multiplayer. When you present these arguments to half of that built up fan base, they say (quoting my room mate) "Y3AH, BUT THTA MULT!PL@YER IS TEH B3ST EBAR!!1!" (all punctuation used for accuracy).

According to them, having a good multiplayer component excuses the sins against story and gaming that comprise the rest of the 'epic conclusion' to the trilogy, which I think they could have rocked with if they ignored the multiplayer a bit (which now has nothing but drooling 8 year old trolls anyway).

So, in short, it's because the 3rd game was crap, and the fans defend it as if it was a bible written by God himself. Compounded annoyance; I see a blue sky but the man next to me INSISTS it is red and will not change his mind. Additional games, like Halo Wars and the 2 new ones announced just prove they are milking the series and I have no faith in their quality since I think there wasn't enough interesting mystery or other elements that defined the first one left. It will be the same shooter as Halo 3, with no surprises. Why would you be happy for that?
I have to completely agree.

Halo was brilliant for it's day, it took a traditionally based PC environment and ported it to a console with a decent back story that left you guessing.

Halo2 was alright, it had it's flaws but was showing that the game should of perhaps wound up there.

Halo3 i think i got about half way through and stopped playing.
