Why does Vista hate GIF's?

This was the last post in a forum I found:

Due to the increased security features of Windows Vista, the MS Active Desktop is not available in Vista. Therefore an animited .gif cannot be natively used for wallpaper.

However a Google search reveals 'Dreams':

Dreams are high quality animated wallpapers that run exclusively on Windows Vista Ultimate and transform the static desktop users spend all day looking at into a world of motion and activity.

EDIT:
Or this. This is actually kind of cool.

It's not like the old Windows based games don't work, that's why they threw in Windows compatibility mode.
Actually, in my experience, compatibility mode works with less than 25% of older games that can't run normally. There are many important files that were simply removed completely from Vista.

As far as I'm conserned the last 'true' update of Windows was XP. Everything after that was just a re-hash. Not including the servers (don't know anything about them). P.S. just incase someone screams that XP won't do this or can't do that (ie. use the larger hard drives), those types of things are not truly new program worthy: a simple patch could have taken care of them for free. putting them in a new OP isn't necessary. to be back on topic, the GIF's should have had an option to turn them on or off. they didn't need to make it so no one else in the universe had a choice in the matter. They are not, after all, all seeing and all knowing. :(

They had to drop 16-bit support eventually I guess.

Wow, lots of thread necrophiliacs on the Escapist these days.

Even so, since I'm here...

I hated Vista. Even with Win 7 though I don't see the appeal of an animated background. I just go for the ones of games or universes I like and leave it.

I love me some Star Wars.
