Why I Am (Tentatively) Excited About Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series has had its problems, but Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare looks promising. Let's look at the reasons.

Well...
You've certainly given me a lot to think about.
Since CoD4, Ghosts is the only CoD I haven't bought (I've also acquired CoD1). I love the series. I stuck with it through MW2 and 3, and Black Ops 2, because I still hoped the series would actually live up to it's potential. I was pleasantly surprised by Black Ops, but felt let down more and more with each instalment. I played a friend's copy of Ghosts and was thoroughly relieved I didn't buy it. Now you've gone and given me hope that Advanced Warfare might actually be good, and I just don't know if I can take any more disappointment. I certainly won't be buying it until I've tried it.

I'm not excited about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, for one simple reason.
It's Call of Duty. The same game they release every year. It's the "point the middle of your screen at the enemy and press LMB" game. Game recycles the same song and dance for years, and years. And yet people are excited for it.
For a boring 'same shit, different game' gameplay, for disgusting graphics. And people are excited for it.
And wonder why the gaming industry is so horrible.
The problem is, sometimes, a Call of Duty game will be released, and it will get everything right. Story, pacing, theme, level design, music, and it all comes together to make a stellar game.
Then they completely miss what made that game so great and churn out a more or less functionally identical game, but without any of the qualities of the good one.
Basically, with every CoD release, everyone hopes they get it right again. Then they trick themselves into thinking they have. Then they get disappointed, but remain content with the multiplayer still being good. There are a lot of people hoping that the next CoD will do for the series what CoD4 did.

It will probably prove to be incredibly popular... and once again EA will be playing catch-up to bring out a future version of Battlefield, when they've been sitting on BF2142 for years.
Bring on BF2143. I reckon if the new Battlefront does well we'll see a 2143 before the next main series or Bad Company game. I'd love another WW2 or 'Nam Battlefield, PC missed out on 1943 and BC2: 'Nam was way too small.
