Why I think Call of Duty 5 will suck!

Hi guys.

With all the success surrounding Call of Duty 4 you would think that Call of Duty 5 would be another sure fire hit, but two peices of information around the internet have me worried and if they are true it will spell suckage for CoD5.

My main two concerns are:

1. Call of Duty 5 will not be developed by Infinity Ward but Treyarch instead. (Unconfirmed but likely.)
2. Call of Duty 5 may be set in World War 2. (exlained below)

The first rumor is actually well founded. You see back in the day when Call of Duty was a new shooter, its decent reception opened the path for a franchise however IW could only churn out a CoD game once every two years. So Activision came up with an idea to get a CoD out every year and that would be to employ another developer (Treyarch) to develop their own game between the time it took for Infinity Ward to make their CoD.

As for the second problem, Treyarch, in fact, put out an ad asking for a Call of Duty level designer who had an interest in World War 2 shooters which suggests they intend for CoD5 to be in World War 2.

Now I could be fussing over nothing here but I really enjoyed Call of Duty 4, I found the single player campaign to be very enjoyable although short and the multiplayer experience to be well thought out and alot of fun as a result. But the problem I have is the simple fact that Call of Duty 3 just was'nt that much fun, the graphics were ok but the story was cheesy and was'nt very engaging and the multiplayer experience was bland and uninspired and the thought of the next CoD being left in the hands of those idiots has got me down.

But the main problem is of course the possibility that it could be another WW2 shooter. Sweet lord Jesus have'nt we put that baby to bed yet? Has the war cliche boat not set sail? I mean I love the older World War shooters but all the famous battles have been done to death. The battles that are not a rehash of Stalingrad or Omaha beach are usually just weird random or obscure skirmishes like "The fight for 32nd Street" or "The Battle of Bridge C", Im amazed there is'nt a WW2 shooter that lets you be a Nazi invading Poland. Thats how dry that well is! I could go on all night but I just wanted to get other peoples opinions on this, even if the reply is "meh, lolz internets"

You can't base something as fact if it's only speculation. Just because these rumors/speculations are there doesn't mean that CoD5 will automatically suck.

Obviously, i hope these rumors are not true, as Call of Duty 4 was an amazing game, and it would totaly suck if 5 was in WWII.

Wasn't this around about a month after CoD4 came out? Also I think these were confirmed back then, I'm fairly certain CoD5 isn't going to be IW developed.

Here's your problem. You started your post with RANDOM RUMORS FLOATING AROUND THE INTERNET. Sorry for so many caps, but that statement alone equates to the rest of the post being complete BS.

Seriously, do people even read the OP's here before commenting. I may have started with random rumors but what Im actually talking about in the post are very true.

the facts you put forth are compelling. I've kind of wondered why Cod 2 and 4 were so amazing while 3 was such a let down, and now I know. If what you're saying is true, and I have no reason to doubt that it is, then I'd be inclined to agree with your prediction. Hopefully it turns out to not be the case, but I wouldn't put money on it.

And as for Treyarch devloping CoD5, it seems Ive got ahead of myself. Although they do want a level designer it appears the website I read about the information did'nt say it was un-confirmed. It stated Treyarch were developing as a fact. So my bad on that one.

I've seen a lot of people saying they hated CoD3...yet never found a convincing argument as to why it sucked so bad. I liked it, and it's multiplayer was more fun than CoD2. I'd even go as far to say that (For me) the game was twice as fun as Halo 3.

As for the WWII debate, I can't see a difference, the CoD series never gripped me with atmosphere and never sucked me into the storyline...never. They were always about Hollywood ideals of war, so to say that you're tired of WWII is unbelievable to me.

It's developed by Treyarch. (And no, that's never been a rumour, it was announced before CoD4 was even out)

That pretty much guarantees it'll suck, because Treyarch haven't yet made a good game. I mean these are the people who managed to make being Spider-Man, a guy who swings on buildings, tedious and un-fun (and that was before One More Day!).

I don't mind WW2 FPS games at all. They're very much less morally objectionable than shooting at modern-day muslims who want to defend their country from invading forces, which at least a third or so of CoD4 seems to be about.
I don't have to feel bad about enjoying shooting Nazis. But "hypernationalists" of a nameless middle-eastern country is another thing entirely.

So if anything, I think CoD4 is inferior to at least CoD1 (2 was pretty bad at times, never played 3. But 1 was freaking fantastic) and I wouldn't mind a bit them returning to CoD1's style. That'd make my day.

Last I heard COD5 was confirmed as a WW2 shooter, and that's when I decided I wasn't buying it. I have faith in Activision to not put out a game that completely sucks so the developer doesn't concern me. I just don't want to play through WW2 again. If they're going to revisit dark times in history, couldn't they at least give us a new playing field to digitally reenact the gruesome horrors our ancestors endured?

An FPS game based on the American Revolutionary War would actually be interesting for me, but I guess the absence of tanks and machine guns would remove a lot of the drawing power of an FPS title. It would also lead to some intensely shit multiplayer. Forget I said anything.

i agree WW2 games are being dragged along..been going too long since medal of honour
but yea a hypothetical war would be great not D-Day...again!
and yea call of duty 4 was a desperate attempt to make the game a dramtic soap opera..and on the wii it was glitched and just plain annoying (RIP console of irritation)
i believe that even if it takes longer for IW to make the next CoD it would be better than getting another "soap opera" CoD from Treyarch
