Why is Liquid 'Liquid' but Solid is 'Snake'?

Shouldn't really have to explain further, it's quite simple really.

Whenever people refer to Solid Snake, they always call him "Snake". Whenever people refer to Solidus they call him "Solidus" or "President Sears" (OMG SPOILERS FROM A GAME MADE LIKE 8 YEARS AGO!). Whenever people refer to Liquid they always call him "Liquid" or, occasionally, "Liquid Ocelot" (OMG MORE SPOILERS FROM MGS2!)

I'm curious if anyone knows as to why Solid is the only one to get called Snake when really, they're all Snake.

Hell, even Raiden gets referred to as Snake more than Liquid did.

Because, Snake is a way cooler and totally all-around more bad-ass name than Solidus or Liquid, and is reserved for the main character.

I agree with him..as the main character you want a bad-ass nickname like 'Snake' and 'Solid' may get made fun of a bit much.

Because solid snake is most like naked snake (ZOMFG, MORE SPOILERS). Solidus has a real identity as the US president and liquid aimed to seperate himself from the system that created him. Solid was the only one who was working within the system (well, originally they all were, but he was the last to rebel against it).

It's just so people wouldn't get (more) confused.

You have 5 Snakes in the story:

Solid Snake
Liquid Snake
Solidus Snake
Naked Snake
Old Snake

That's alot of Snakes. So only Solid Snake gets called Snake cause he is the main character. As the rest are supporting characters(villains) and one is better knowed as Big Boss,it's just easier to call the main character Snake.

Also because of this:

Snake, what happened? SNAKE? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

And have you ever tried having a conversation with someone when you say their name which is the same as yours?! It's almost like your talking to yourself in front of someone.

Plus, Liquid sounds better for a name than Solid.

Because Snake is the main character and "Solid" sounds too much like an erection also it would be confusing with there being like 5 Snakes.

Because solid snake is too much innuendo to be taken seriously.

But really, because Snake has been to name of the protagonist since the NES version. There was no menction about the "Solid" or "Liquid" part until they got to the PS1 game. They introduced that storyline element there, but the main character has always been the same...
